can you file bankruptcy without an attorney?

I mean why pay an attorney 2,000 to file when you can go get the paperwork yourself, and do it? Any thoughts? Has anyone filed themselves before?

Hi. Yes, you can file without an attorney, but depending on how complex your situation is, it may not be adviseable. I filed for bankruptcy 6 years ago, and only used an attorney because I wanted to reaffirm on my automobile, and didn’t know how.

If you situation is pretty simple, then filing yourself could save you a lot of money.

I don’t know where you live, I filed 5 years ago, I know the laws have changed since then but I only payed $750+ the filing fee of $50 so all together $800. I know that prices vary from city to city, but whew…$2000 is a lot of money! I have read and answered some of your questions and in your situation, I definately wouldn’t recommend going at this solo. Spend the money and make sure that everything is done correctly.
