Debt Settlement?
I have worked with consumer credit counseling for over a year now and I currently was paying over ,500.00 a month to cover bills, unfortunately my husband is off work and will be for some time because of a work injury which workers’ comp denied. He is scheduled for 2 surgeries and I am seeking some form of disability. I will be down to one income, I have four children, I am thinking about doing debt settlement since we owe K and I am the only one working with no other income coming in, please advise me if these programs work, I cannot file bankruptcy. Please help me.
The only people who benefit from "debt settlement companies" are the companies.
Stick with your non-profit (you shouldn’t be paying very much each month to them–99.9% of your payment should be going to your creditors.)
Tell them your situation and they should work with you–they want to help you get back on your feet and aren’t predatory like those companies trying to "help you settle your debts for pennies on the dollar".
Keep faith and make sure you have cut EVERYTHING out of your budget that is not completely necessary for sustaining life (soda, cable, and INTERNET are not necessary!)
Good luck!

March 8th, 2010 at 11:50 pmI would avoid debt settlement companies. I work for a large bank and once we receive the limited power of attorney and cease and desist order, we immediately send it to legal. It doesn’t matter if you are just 1 day past due, we send all accounts off to sue the debtor. Most banks do not deal with these companies. I know that Bank of America, GE Money, Citi, HSBC, and JP Morgan Chase do not deal with these types of companies. I would stick with CCCS.
