Does my situation allow me to still file for bankruptcy?

Laid off twice last year for several weeks, then this year for four months. Now back to work but haven’t paid credit card bills since September of 2008, with a credit settlement company, but not going good cause haven’t been employed. Even though back to work could I still file for bankruptcy?

If it’s under $10,000, usually it’s not worth it because it will stay on all 3 credit reports for 10 years. Plus the fact most employers now run credit reports to make sure you’re not trying to defraud them.

Depends on the amount of debt you have. Generally, less than $15k in unsecured debt is not worth bankruptcy because it will cost you a few thousand just to file for it. Also, your total debt has to exceed your yearly income to be technically bankrupt. If you meet those two conditions, you should have no problem filing for bankruptcy.
