how can i make money off of my horses?
i need some help (no i’m not going bankrupt) i want to make some spare cash. and was thinking what better way to make money than off of my horses! i dont want to give lessons, but cant think of anything other than that
please help?
first of all i would like to say thank you for all of the answers so far-
and to pony girl and PRS and any one who agrees with them let me say this "I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING OFF OF MY HORSES! just want to do something fun and MABY make a little cash off of it
" i like the idea of entering them in shows
i might try that. if you come up with anything more -tell me!-
There is nothing you can do that doesn’t require you to have liability insurance, which usually negates any profits you were hoping to make.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmSome insurance companies won’t even offer you coverage if they feel your business is too risky. It is very hard to make money with anything horse-related these days. Like ponygirl said, if you find a way, let the rest of us know !
With this economy, good luck.
Try a partial lease with them.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmBring your horse to a trainer or train him yourself and enter him in a horse contest.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmLease them. Give trail rides, Lead Line parties for B-days and Special days.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmTo do anything with your horses you will need insurance…if you are going to have other people ride them.
You could lease them out, do a partial lease (but you will still need insurance or check your home insurance and see if you are covered)
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmMaybe give pony rides on weekends.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmWin money classes in shows
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmGive lead line parties
Ground lessons (teach how to groom bath tack)
Lease
Lease your horse, either half or full depending on how much you use it.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmIf you can figure out a way for a regular backyard type horse to even pay his way, let the rest of us know…..As far as I know, horses are not a reliable way to make money without spending a small fortune doing it.
"The way to make a small fortune with horses is to start with a large one."
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmYou can enter them in shows. If you do well, you will probably earn money. Some shows don’t have this though. I earned a little over $50 when I did well in a show. Hope this helped. Good luck!
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmDo you know how to make a small fortune in the horse world? Start with a big one.
Honestly, you can’t really make money off horses (not a lot anyway). I suggest you find some other way to do it.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmHoresback RIDES of Course !
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmOh, just let me start with….HA! HA! HA! Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, welcome to reality. Horse don’t MAKE you money! They COST money…lots of it! I only know one person who has a business where she actually uses her horses…she drives carriages and uses them for weddings, parades and such. I doubt seriously if she does much better than break even though. I have another friend who boards horses on her farm but that just barely pays for her insurance and helps to feed her own horses. She is certainly not MAKING money, just mitigating her own expenses. HA! Good luck with that!
Entering into horse shows is a no go too. To the poster that "made $50.00" at a show…how much did it cost to GET to the show (fuel, vehicle etc)? What about expenses at the show? Show fees, stall fees etc. Believe me, you probably actually lost money on that deal. Been there done that. My daughter used to think she was actually making money at the horse shows too since she didn’t have to bear any of the expenses and I allowed her to keep her winnings.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmlease your horses to people. but keep them on your property if you want to see them and then that way the people that are leasing them will come out and ride and you can see what they are doing. it worth a shot.
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmlease it, at town carnivals holidays (were lots of people come) give horse rides to people,
March 23rd, 2010 at 7:01 pmtake people on rides around your town or trail rides/ sight seeing
even if you don’t want to give lessons – that would be a great idea – you can name your own days and hours, and you would get paid good.
The only people who are lets say "making a living" that equates to breaking even are Top Performance horses that enter into high paying futurities….the Reichert Celebration pays out 100,000 to the top 6 places but then again, you have to take out travel, gas, feed, entry fee and If dues, show equipment, do you want me to continue??? Plus you are talking about having a horse that can compete is gonna set you back a ways Then You could get into Reining or Cutting but then again, your prize money will be big but in the end after shelling out fees, money for promotion, travel, equipment, practice fees for working on someones cattle, and not to mention training and showing by top Professionals will pretty much again, just maybe leave you even….thats if things go exactly as planned……and WHEN does that ever happen!!!!!!
