How do I know I should file for bankruptcy?

How do I know I should file for bankruptcy? What happens when I file? I live in NJ. I feel I should but what will happen if I do. I am 23 years old and it has been extremely hard for me to pay back anything. I was doing well until I got an unnecessary judgment put on me. (Which is on this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjFS14c7T3RPLXBbkja_oPUjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20090809082945AAsDabI "

What should I do? Some one please help me.

You file for bankruptcy if and only if you have no other options. A bankruptcy stays on your credit record for years meaning any loan (car loan, mortgage, etc), apartment application, credit card application, etc will be greatly impacted for about 7 years. And by ‘greatly impacted’, I mean that it’s practically impossible to get any of those for the first few years and still extremely difficult for the rest. If you think you’ll want to buy a house before your 30, or rent an apartment within the next 3 years, then find a better option.
