We just filed bankruptcy and it cost us $2000. We filed a chapter 7 and there are several unique problems with our case. It depends on how complicated the bankruptcy is and who your lawyer is. I have heard that can cost you as low as $500. I don’t know about social security. Some types of taxes aren’t allowed to be part of the bankruptcy. Call a bankruptcy lawyer. They will talk to you and answer many of your questions for free. Good luck.

Go to google.com and type in legalhelpers… You will get alot of your questions answered on this website. I just filed for chptr 7 this morning. You do need a lawyer. The court cost is $299 and then $100 for cricketdebt counseling course and our attorney charged $1,000. Remember, its the law of the land and everyone is entitled to a fresh start if you need to file ..go for it and good luck!
