How will Ford stock be affected if GM and Chrysler go bankrupt?

Up, down, or no effect at all?

Everybody that sells in the US shares the same suppliers. Not only would it hurt Ford but it would also hurt Toyota, Honda, Nissan, VW, Subaru, Mitsubishi, etc. When they are hurt their stocks will show it.

I would think it would go down. They are not far behind GM and Chrysler.

My best suggestion is to take a couple finance courses. The market is not a "book value" sighting of the stock price, but a rating of how the market buyers see the stock doing over the long run. This relates to the profitability of the company, the base holdings and value of the company, and the relation of the company compared to others in the industry. There is much more than can be answered in this forum, and the result will change with the company’s response to other problems in the industry such as how well it deals with not getting parts from the same supplier or fluctuations in materials costs.

Ford is in better financial shape than the others. They have had more consistent successes with the public, with fewer recalls and problems, and less lawsuits than the others. They are more responsible to their employees and customers. I would assume that their stock values would rise.
