You will need to pay that much just to get a lawyer involved. If your issues are simple (credit cards, bank loans, doctor bills, etc) and there is no car or real estate involved, you might find it easier to get it done for that amount. Dave was in your shoes and now helps people to recover from financial distress and it is geared toward trying what he suggests rather than filing bankruptcy. There is also a link to a forum from Dave's site to talk to others who are in your shoes. Find out what they did or are doing. Some of them are now completely out of debt and did not file bankruptcy.
