I am totally confused about Toyota?

I am not sure why Toyota is handling the foot pedal recall like this.
I’ve had Audi and GM, and it was never about hyping up and advertising the problem exist, never mind apologies from the CEO.

In my area the CEP of Toyota has taken out a full page ad on the NY times asking Toyota owners from 2001 to present to come in for a replacement pedal as well as paying for prime time air on the radio to personally apologize.

Do they want to go bankrupt? This is not how a corporation should handle a mistake?

None of it makes sense. There are two things for you to ponder which may help you understand the insanity.

The first is the cultural difference between Japan and the U.S. To make a complicated story simple, Japan’s public face for admitting or discussing a problem is a polite little dance on egg shells with lots of smiles and gratuitous behavior. Our public face for a problem is to yell, grandstand, point fingers and make demands. That’s one reason Japanese don’t like us. And who can blame them? Here’s the catch. They need to figure out how their way gets translated into our way. Good luck with that.

The second is to look at the person who is controlling the puppets and what the puppets say and do. Why it’s none other than our old friend Mr. Litigation Lawsuit Lawyer who reminds us all that "Everything you say and do, can and will be used against you, to destroy you and make me a multi-billionaire".

The loss of life and injuries are tragic. We need a common sense solution to keep drivers safe. What we will actually get remains to be seen.

Toyota was taking the complaints lightly and now, they are in damage control mode.

is this a question or your opinion.

It is the biggest recall in a long time… the CEO has to come out and talk
The US department of Transportation called him out (big deal)
Thousands of cars affected to say the least
They are hurting, they have to advertise something related to the issue and how they are going to fix it. I mean they can’t just ignore it in their commercials

That’s what I think. I think they reacted too late and now they have to go through all that stuff you see on TV… the only way to go now

What is the death toll now anyway?
When you consider that inside Toyota they were bragging about saving 100 million dollars by not fixing the gas pedal problem, it seems to me that what is being done is not enough.
Now if you think that it is ok to cover up the red of consumers blood with black ink on a balance sheet, I feel sorry for you!

Toyota has had many problems for many years now. They are trying to get the public at ease before the next batch of recalls in their line.

The gas peddle issue is a huge deal. People have died from this and now its hitting the Lexus side. They are just trying to make people feel better. More problems are coming too so stay tuned.
They have been building garbage for over the past 10 years now. Have had countless problems thought out the line and now are being faced with more serious problems. Peoples life’s!

Had they not had such a good track record in previous years people would loose the mind set on how reliable there are and realize they are buying a cheap car that is not up to par with the competition.

Nissan and Honda are the winners in this and rightfully so. This has been a long time coming. Its just too bad the dealers are going to be the ones that get hit hard here. Not their fault Toyota decided to build cheap and also hide problems or discard them.
