If GM goes bankrupt, will expats go home?
How big of a change is there that GM will go under? I’ve only caught bits an pieces from my family.
But if they do, is it likely they will start sending people back to the U.S, from places such as Australia?

Even if the company "goes under", as you say, it might not vanish. As far as I know, US bankruptcy law (and GM is a US-American company) provides for all kinds of procedures that allow a company to continue operations while its debt and equity is being restructured. It also specifies that employees continue to get paid as long as they are still employed, so if the expats are part of a profitable business organization, they could still continue to work as present. On the other hand, if company management decides to get rid of the business organization, it could be sold or shut down. If it is shut down, people would be let go and maybe head back to their home country. If it is sold, the new owner could keep the employees or let some of them go too.
