Should I stop paying the collection agencies before I file for bankruptcy?

I am considering filing for bankruptcy. I am paying a collection agency and attorneys for a collection agency. They threatened to file judgments. I also had a judgment filed againstt me last week.

Stop paying and file. Judgments for collections are dischargable in a bankruptcy.

As soon as you file you can stop paying. But, if you stop paying before you file, then a judgment can be entered against you. You cannot bankrupt against a judgment. If you are considering bankruptcy, you should do it as quickly as possible if you are to the point that judgments are being entered against you. Once you have judgments against you, you can also have garnishment and all this causes a domino effect.
