I am 22 years old and have ,000 worth of credit card debt and ,000 in student loans that I have to start paying off in 2 months. I talked with a credit counselor and asked him his opinion whether or not I should do the program or declare bankruptcy. He could not give me a specific answer, but he was leaning towards bankruptcy.
I just graduated college and have a job making very little money and paying off the debt is going to take me over 10 years because my monthly payment (with the credit counselor) is very high. I know even if I continue with the credit counseling, it will still hurt my credit.
My parents declared bankruptcy 5 years ago and had no problems getting a new car and built a brand new house with an average interest rate. I know some employers look at credit reports, but credit counseling will affect that anyway. I just want to start over and need some advice. I appreciate it!!

im 22 years old and have made a few mistakes in the past with my credit. ive never really had any guidance in financial decision making. seems like as soon as i turned 18 i was able to have what ever i wanted. i intended to pay everything i got but didnt take in to consideration that the jobs i was working wouldnt be there for very long. so ive decided to get myself back on the right track and file for chapter 7 bankrupcy and wipe my credit clean. i know it will take a while to rebuild it but at least im still young. i now have the intelligence to determine whether or not i can afford something in the long run. so i need to know how i would go about finding out every single thing that i owe so i can get rid of it all at once and not have something lingering over me after ive filed. i would also like to know how much it will cost me for a lawyer to file bankruptcy? any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
shane

I’m 22 years old. I’m a college student. I am in 20,000 in debt. The creditors are constantly calling me. I only work part time. I’ll be in school for the next 6 years due to me getting my M.D in Psychiatry. I am stressed out and I think bankruptcy is my only option.
Note: These are not student loans, i only have 6g of student loans. My debt is from credit cards and loans, thats it, my student loans are not part of it.

Here’s my problem… I am 22 years old, and I went to college for 2 years. during that time I racked up some pretty large bills that I couldn’t handle. I have about 7500 dollars charged off and in collections from credit cards. 2200 of that I have a judgment against me for and they said that they could garnish my wages soon if I don’t pay it off. I had a repossession 14 months ago and owe Wells Fargo ,000 to pay it off. Last but not least, I subleased an apartment to a stranger 2 years ago and I moved out of town. Now I have found out that that person stopped paying the rent and that because I subleased the apartment I am responsible for the rent that was not paid which come out to about 00. So, all together I owe about ,000. I have called all of the creditors and asked what it would take to settle. After calculating that all up it comes out to about ,000. The only thing I have paid perfect is 2 student loans and that’s it. I have no car and I cant get a car loan. I have been rejected for an apartment because of the judgment on the sublease issue. Basically, I am better off dead but I cant bring myself to do that. So I have to decide what to do….Is bankruptcy the way to go?

This debt is for a credit card that I have had for 22 years. Prior to now I have always paid off my balance each month in full.
Last September I was in a terrible car accident, I was in the hospital for over one month, and have since had 4 reconstruction surgeries on my legs. I lost my job, and my husband barely makes enough to pay our mortgage and keep the utilities paid each month. We had to use the card to pay for some of my doctor visits, medicine, groceries, etc now the card had about 00.00 on it. My doctor says that I will probably never be able to work again due to the extent of my injuries, and I should file for SSR. We have been unable to make any payments on this card.
Yesterday I received a notice from the CC company wanting to settle the debt. Has anyone ever settled a debt? How should I proceed? Will the CC company want a lump sum, or will they take a minimum payment each month. Honestly I do not want our credit ruined, as we had perfect credit, but I would only be able to make a very small monthly payment, does anyone know if they will accept the payment?
