Long story short in order for my parents to obtain their home I co-signed. Then they obtained a modification for 50 thousand. Up until yesterday I didn’t know that my parents were told to stop paying for the second loan of 50 and now they owe that amount. The realtor suggested filing for bankruptcy. I was shocked I told him im 23 years old how the hell would filing for bankruptcy look on my credit. Mind you my credit looks awful due to my parents not being able to afford their home. However the realtor said that it wasn’t that bad that id be able to get my own home and obtain loans in 2 years. I was told that if my parents file bankruptcy and I don’t that the entire loan would fall on me and I would owe that entire amount. Im just soo pissed that my parents would allow this to fall on my shoulders. On one hand if I don’t include myself in the home modifications my parents will loose their home but if I do my credit and the ability for me to ever buy my own home is f—. Would bankruptcy really be the way out ?? please help any advice or input helps im in such a predicament that I feel any decision I make im screwed either way.

I’m 23 years old and I am in ,000 worth of debt. That includes a repo’d car, a default school loan, and some 0 bills here and there. I’ve never had a credit card and as crazy as it sounds, my mother use to use my name to order off the home shopping network and for her utility bills. I have tried to dispute it but with no luck. I just want to start off fresh. It will take FOREVER to pay off that much debt. So should I file bankruptcy? What chapter? Any advice?

I’m 23 years old, a student, and physically becoming ill due to the amount of stress I have between school and work, in which I still struggle to pay my credit card bills. What is the step by step legal way of settling my credit card debt? I understand the ramifications that my credit report will suffer, but my debt to income ratio is already too high to get any loans or credit anyway (student loans). What is the worst that can happen? Are there any companies that help students in my situation? Thank you.

Hi all.
I am 23 years old and have VERY bad credit and a lot of debt.
I had a lot of complications during my pregnancy, and was in and out of the ER 2-3 times a week for 9 months… after I had my son, a hospital representative came in the room to discuss medicaid with me…ALL this time I was under the impression that I had medicaid and I did NOT. Now I have racked up thousands of dollars in medical bills && also I have 4-5 umpaid credit cards adding up to about 00. Mind you, I have not paid ANY of these bills.
I am married, and want to file bankruptcy, but I do not also want to ruin my husbands credit…can I file for myself only??
I am just really nervous about all of this and I don’t know what to do…
Any suggestions are welcome…
Serious answers only.
Thanks all!

How do I know I should file for bankruptcy? What happens when I file? I live in NJ. I feel I should but what will happen if I do. I am 23 years old and it has been extremely hard for me to pay back anything. I was doing well until I got an unnecessary judgment put on me. (Which is on this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjFS14c7T3RPLXBbkja_oPUjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20090809082945AAsDabI "

I am 23 years old, in college part time and working part time. I am recently divorced and have about ,000 in loans and credit card bills I got stuck with that were all aqquired during the marriage. Since I can only afford minimum payments (and receive no financial aid) I feel like I should look into bankruptcy.
I have two credit cards, so If I file bankruptcy on just my loans (,000) and one credit card, does keeping the one credit card plus an account balance with Dell (for a laptop I financed) help my credit score at all, as opposed to filing on everything I owe?
And everyone says to do it before I get any older if I’m going to do it. And I don’t expect any new bills (I have a dependable car and low rent) anytime soon.
Sometimes I feel like bankruptcy is "cheating" but I had an extra income at the time I signed for the loans, and of course didn’t expect to get divorced. I feel helpless, as the balances barely go down and i’m spending money I need to live, or I’m going to have to quit school.

Well, I’m 23 years old and I’ve had a horrible streak of bad luck. I was laid-off some months back and once unemployment ran out still haven’t been able to get a job. I’ve been concentrating on paying my rent and utilities, and because of that my car was just repossessed. I have 2 credit cards that are just stacking up. All in all I have about 20,000 in debt, that because of essential bills such as rent I’m unable to pay off right now. Can I file bankruptcy? Should I?
