The national debt is almost trillion, Obama wants us to go another $trillion into debt and the recession is deepening. As Obama said, we must take action now.
My attorney is helping me resolve certain debts, & has asked me to give the money to him, he said he will put it in a trust account and then pay the amount owed to the creditor out of that.
I have never done this before, is this normal procedure? I feel weird about it, it is a lot of money and I’m worried it could be a scam, how do I know he will pay the amount to the creditor? What could I do about it if he didn’t? He does seem trustworthy and has been in business a long time, I just don’t know what is normal procedure.
I would appreciate guidance from those who have been through this and/or work in law.

I want to get a new cell phone with AT&T, I currently have Verizon and have horrible credit. Would my deposit with AT&T be more before I file or after I file. I’m currently ready to file in a couple weeks and I’m not sure if I should try to start phone service now or after my court date.

It’s been about 3 years since I had to break a year apartment lease to move for work. I tried to talk to them to work something out and they said sorry you have to pay for the last 3 months of the lease. I didn’t have that kind of money to fork over so I had to just leave. Now they have ruined my credit score saying I owe them ,600. My rent was 0/month. I can’t get a house because of this so my question is what do I need to do to get this off my credit report ASAP? Credit lawyer? If they started renting the apartment I was in say the next month, are they allowed to collect from the new tenants and me at the same time? Is that some kind of double payment? I am ,000 in the hole in charged off debts so one of the creditors filed a civil lawsuit on me, if i file bankruptcy & name the creditor in the filing does the lawsuit get stopped dead in its tracks?
I have 2 weeks to submit an "answer" to the civil complaint denying all charges to buy myself an extra 90 days…
….after you get sued for building a faulty house for someone. The judge is in favour of the plaintiff, whose house you built. He rules that you must pay them ,000 to compensate for the cracks in the ceilings & walls and various other mishaps. You then, like a b*tch, file for bankruptcy. Don’t know how to phrase this, but: your claim for bankruptcy is accepted.
Replace the you with defendant. What prompts me to ask this is that the defendant walked out of court saying "You’re not getting one cent" to the plaintiff. Which, for comedic effect, i will add that he got punched in the face :L
Questions:
1) How does the plaintiff get his compensation, in civil law or whatever area of law? Are there alternative ways to gain compensation for this issue other than suing? Obviously the suing did not work out? Like for e.g. in criminal cases you can go to the Victims Compensation Tribunal if suing civilly does not work in your interests.
2) Does the defendant (in bankruptcy) have to sell all his assets and every cent of his future income goes to paying the defendant the compensation? Its only fair..
3) Does he get off scott free?

I thought your debt can be wiped off after 6 years without bankruptcy, so whats the difference? or is it that you MUST file for bankruptcy to rid ur debt from ur file & debt in itself?

They recently went bankrupt as rumor has it and my phone can’t send or receive calls. I’ve had about 6 accounts go into collections. They are all hospital bills. I thought at the time my insurance covered the majority of those visits seeing how I had coverage but I guess they didnt. My credit has been severely ruined b/c of these accounts dispute the fact I have a mortgage, auto loans & credit cards all in good standing. I want to settle the collections accounts but I’m curious on the repercutions of settling. The oldest account is from 2002 & the newest one being in 04/2006. They are relatively small totaling only about 00. What recommendations do you guys have? I really dont feel I should pay something my health insurance should have paid. But I want to fix this since I’ve ignored it for so long. I’m clueless when it comes to this stuff! Please Help!!

I recently closed a small business and left my home state of FL. Well, I finally got around to having my mail forwarded form my PO Box and received a letter from AT&T that I have a past due balance of .27. I called AT&T today (1/12/08) & tried to pay the bill but received a message that the debt has been sent to a collections agency (American Recovery Services) (The letter was dated 12/7/07). I don’t think I owe the money, (I thought the last bill was paid in full), but I’m willing to pay.
1. What is the best way to contact the collections agency to settle (by phone, mail)?
2. Is this debt already on my credit report as of today?
3. Should I get anything in writing before I pay, if I pay over the phone?

I am 23 years old and have VERY bad credit and a lot of debt.
I had a lot of complications during my pregnancy, and was in and out of the ER 2-3 times a week for 9 months… after I had my son, a hospital representative came in the room to discuss medicaid with me…ALL this time I was under the impression that I had medicaid and I did NOT. Now I have racked up thousands of dollars in medical bills && also I have 4-5 umpaid credit cards adding up to about 00. Mind you, I have not paid ANY of these bills.
I am married, and want to file bankruptcy, but I do not also want to ruin my husbands credit…can I file for myself only??
I am just really nervous about all of this and I don’t know what to do…

Credit card debt is more than 6 1/2 years old (no payments & no charges). Being sued in court. Other Atty said I owe this forever. Attys. I tried to have represent me said, Internet & Suze Orman do not prove law – even though I gave specific Ohio Revised Code Nos.
I have no money for an atty anyway – if I did, I’d use it to settle debts.

I have 2 balances 6,900 that is in collections with a law firm > threatening to go to court. They are offering to settle for 3,500. The other credit card is 6,600 and is not in collections – they are offering to settle for ,300. Does it hurt your credit & for how long if I Settle my Debt?
I have maxed 2 of my credit card. each at 18% p.a. if i take up a loan at 12% p.a. to settle both credit card & only make 1 repayment towards the loan.. is it worth it? from 1 point of view, its basically creating debts to settle debts. but on the other hand.. it is at a lower interest rate.im confused!
Is a long story but to cut it short, I can’t get back my money now. I was being setup as boyfriend and gal friend. The girl pretending to be my gal friend told me that she was in financial difficulty and ask me to help her out by swaping my credit card in advance first after which she will pay me back at end of month. She bought herself clothes, shoes & bags which amounted to RM4.5K. It is only through trust and verbal agreement i agreed to help her out. Later on I found out that she was cheating me of my money. Right now, she refuses to settle her debt and even threaten to file sexual harassment report against me not unless I cancel off her debt. I thought of taking this to small claims court but then I was told that if I do not have any written agreement to support my claim it will be of no use. I do have recording evidence but was told it cannot be accepted as an evidence. Has anyone come across this situation before? I do not know what to do now. *sigh* Any advise is welcomed.
The person who passed me the small claims forms told me that recording evidence cannot be accepted. I will check further on the law in my country.
My legal advisor told me that audio or video cannot be used as evidence in court as the contents can be manipulated. 
My spouse & I are in serious financial problems. I think we need to file bankruptcy because he has stopped paying his credit cards. i’m keeping up with the utilities and my own credit cards. we own 2 homes, 1 of which is on the market and my spouse refuses to bring down the asking price and now the morgage company has started foreclosure on that property. he’s been able to sort of keep with the morgage payments on the home we live in. my ? is, is debt settlement a good option? I filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2005 and we did not include the house. Now my wife & I will be getting a divorce. Is it possible to file a Joint Bankruptcy when it has been only 4 years since I filed myself? We’re in Tennessee if that matters.

If the cars are not better quality, affordable & fuel efficient enough no one will purchase them. There are too many affordable used cars & quality imports.
If the family is on welfare (government-assisted apartments & food stamps) but has much unpaid medical bills? Husband has only VA insurance but apparently they won’t pay much of the bill because he reported it past 90 days (or something close to that). Not sure what bankruptcy entails but I know it means "start from scratch" but we also don’t have anything to give….so can a person on welfare file?
I have listed all of my outstanding debts on my bankruptcy (including the 2 mortgages on my home), although I had planned on keeping our home and continuing to keep up the payments. My atty told me that if I needed to walk away from the home at any point after the discharge, that the bankruptcy would help me to avoid any judgements as long as I didn’t refinance the loans. But even without paying the debts that I am filing on, we are still finding that our monthly expenses are far outstrapping our income, so we are thinking about short selling and getting a smaller rental home for a while until we get back on our feet. My domestic partner is on SSI, and is "judgement proof" from what my atty says, so between that and my chapter 7 simply walking away is an alternative to short selling. My question is: what is the best thing to do for the long term?? At this point, both my partner and my credit scores are in the toilet anyway. I’m just worried about never having credit again.
I have had two collection agencies recently try to settle debts with me that are very old and do not show on any three of the credit agencies’ reports. Do I have to pay them or are they just trying to make money off me? I have heard this referred to as "zombie debt." Thanks for your help.

Choices 2 & 3 are not solutions. Islamists realize that either choice leads to bankruptcy and ruin. Its impossible to seal every nook and cranny, and even if it was, we would go bankrupt before sealing 20% of the "vulnerablities".
Iraq, Afganistan or any other Islamic theater of war is another "bleeding" alternative, as we can see now. Because American culture believes in a lefitst-santized version of "war", we give the enemy the advantage. America soliders are not soliders, they are "security" personel waiting for the Islamist to shot him.
