I live in Indiana and have consulted with 2 attorneys already. Problem is I make less than per day here (waitress), so I thought to temporarily go to Florida and stay with a friend so I can try to earn some more money than I can make here. Can I start proceedings as soon as I get to Florida or will I have to be officially a resident of that state?

My divorce was finalized in October and I’m currently not working and I’m attending college full-time. I lost my old job about a year and a half ago, and haven’t been able to find one since. I live in Michigan and the job market is awful here. I graduate in about a year and a half. I’m living with my boyfriend now and he provides for my needs.
I have about 00 in outstanding debts and another 00 in attorneys fees from my divorce.
Some of the debt is from my ex-husband who was ordered to pay his part and was given 90 days to settle with me. It’s been well over 90 days now, and I cannot locate him and his attorney hasn’t been able to find him either. My attorney said that in order to file a motion against his not paying, she needs to be paid what I already owe her.
I obviously cannot pay this without a job, and my boyfriend doesn’t make enough to pay my bills.
So, I was wondering, would I be better off just filing for bankruptcy or waiting to try to pay these things off after I graduate and hopefully obtain a good job?
If I do file bankruptcy, would the attorney’s fees that I owe from the divorce be able to be dismissed under the bankruptcy?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you!
I have a 2 year old son that I take care of full time during the day while my boyfriend works. My classes are at night so my boyfriend watches my son while I’m in school. A minimum wage job would not cover the cost of daycare in our area. Believe me, I’ve looked into every reputable place there is. an hr at a burger joint, even working a full 40 hr week … take home would be around 0 per wk. Daycare runs about 0 per wk. Being away from my son all day long is not worth making per wk.

this is from a consumer loan company I filed bankruptcy on..now they are trying to put a lien on real estate I do not own…my ex wife does..i never received a summons or notification…just saw it online when looking something else up
the court action is against me in this case…she had already been notified that the loan co was going to garnish her wages for the loan (joint)..the divorce decree states I have to pay the loan..I couldn’t and filed BK …how can the loan co come after me? I have been told by attorneys to pay her the wages back she is having garnished…because of the ruling in the divorce
Isn’t it if I don’t answer this action although I have no summons…that they win by default? obviously they are not telling the courts I filed bk…

After credit counseling filing chapter 7 has been recommended since I am on disability and working only part time. Problem is attorneys I’ve contacted want 00, 500 upfront before they’ll even submit the paperwork. Obviously I do not have this. Legal aid is not available in my county or city for bankruptcy. Can I just get the paperwork from the clerk of courts and do it myself?

Was told by two attorneys that before I file Chapter 7 bankruptcy I need to be three months in arrears on my minimum payments. What should I tell the credit card companies? The calls are already non-stop.

I know that attorneys are not cheap but geez-if most people had a couple thousand, they might not need to file!

Most attorneys want 00 or more for a bankruptcy. If I had that much money around I probably wouldn’t need to file bankruptcy. Is hiring an attorney absolutely necessary? Or, can I use a paralegal or document preparer to do the forms? What suggestion might you have?

In November of 2006 my 00 debt with chase bank went into collections. A year later I called a lawyer who told me that if I haven’t been taken to court yet I probably would not. Well almost 3 years later and after the debt has been sold several times, I am being sued by lawyers representing North American Recovery Corp. I was told by Forward Properties (findaccount@gmail.com) that the current owner of my debt was the lawyers and gave me their phone number. I was served papers by the local sheriffs office and am supposed to appear in court on Sept. 24th. The first set of papers said that both parties had to appear on court and then i got a letter from the attorneys today stating they requested from the judge if they could be absent and do a phone conference while I still had to go to court. Is there any way to settle this if the lawyers have it and avoid going to court? The initial balance I owed on the account was just shy of 00.00 and the rest is all late charges and interest. I’m not sure how to attack this, who I should call etc etc, without incurring lawyer expenses of my own. I don’t have a number to contact North American Recovery Corp and cannot find one anywhere on the web. The one search that came up for that name was for another North American Recovery and they said there is another one out there. The debt is orig. from ohio and I now live in florida. Please help me with this headache.

After filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy (mortgage included -fixed rate) my husband became unemployed, so we are now 6 months behind on our mortgage and our attorneys are submitting for a loan modification, what is the process? Is a loan modification always granted?
My husband is now currently working and has been for 3 months now, it has just taken us this long to finally get in touch with our attorneys and also the mortgage lenders attorneys.

I’ve looked at filing for myself but really feel like I should get help from someone with some experience. I’ve heard paralegals will do it for a few hundred dollars plus costs but how do I find one? Most attorneys want to charge me over a thousand dollars which I just don’t have.
