I have worked with consumer credit counseling for over a year now and I currently was paying over ,500.00 a month to cover bills, unfortunately my husband is off work and will be for some time because of a work injury which workers’ comp denied. He is scheduled for 2 surgeries and I am seeking some form of disability. I will be down to one income, I have four children, I am thinking about doing debt settlement since we owe K and I am the only one working with no other income coming in, please advise me if these programs work, I cannot file bankruptcy. Please help me.
I’ve been sued by an account that was turned over to a law office. I want to file bankruptcy but I need time to come up with the money. What I’m wondering is, when I appear in court march 9th and they obtain a judgment for me to pay x amount per month, will I be released from this obligation when I file bankruptcy or will I have to continue paying it because I entered into a new agreement? Thanks for the help.
In case of 2 loans, do we need to file bankruptcy after the house was foreclosure? The second loan tried to collect the money.
or should bankruptcy be filed after filing for disability? My friend is absolutely broke and jobless due to manufacturing no longer existing in the states. He has traveled to several states just to get contract work and that costs him a lot of money each time. Now he has a medical condition but fears applying for disability. His main concern is debt and I told him I’d ask around. Can the debts be wiped out if he qualifies for disability and he goes BK? OR can they get paid back from any disability income? Thanks.
This is no way an attempt to defraud anyone or anything. If someone can’t work and has a legitimate claim, what can you do if you can’t pay bills?
We just got married a few months ago after 13 years of living together. He has racked up his own debt in his name and I have my own debt in my name. We never signed any kind of prenup. He’s been unemployed for over a year, making me the only money maker in the family. I can no longer afford to keep paying on his debts.
Can he file bankruptcy without me being involved, too?
We live in Minnesota, if that matters
I don’t really want to do this, but I am going to end up losing my entire paycheck if I don’t. What do I get to keep if I file bankruptcy? I heard a house and I car. Myself and my mother both have our names on the deed to a home. All of the debt, in the form of a equity line of credit, is in my name. If I file bankruptcy, what will happen with this home???
The home is currently worth about k – k. I owe about k.
Any insight into this situation would be very helpful.
Thank you
My friend’s credit was horrible destroyed after a divorce and lawyers recommended that he file for bankruptcy. Does anyone know if there are any programs that help you file or options that are less costly than the 1500.00 that lawyers want. He is in a bad situation and does not have the money to file.
I need to file for bankruptcy and someone said that if I have already filed my taxes and spent them. That the judge would ask me what I did with my return. Well I had to catch up with my bills. Is it true that I must wait at least 6 months to file bankruptcy?
My spouse & I are in serious financial problems. I think we need to file bankruptcy because he has stopped paying his credit cards. i’m keeping up with the utilities and my own credit cards. we own 2 homes, 1 of which is on the market and my spouse refuses to bring down the asking price and now the morgage company has started foreclosure on that property. he’s been able to sort of keep with the morgage payments on the home we live in. my ? is, is debt settlement a good option? I don’t know where to turn to anymore. My spouse wants to "keep up the fight".
My friend needs to clean up his credit but has gotten himself so much in debt he can afford to pay for bankruptcy. Are there any programs that can help him file. Every place we have called wants 1500.00 to file.
I’ve been looking at an informational site and couldn’t find anything that would answer this question plain and simple. For Chapter 7 it said you could keep clothes and furnishings and something else but it wasn’t house. It said everything of value had to be liquidated to pay the debts. For Chapter 13 it said something about mortgage, but it made it sound like it had to be paid off in 5 years, which I know for what my sister owes on her house, she’d only come close if they weren’t charging any interest during that time. If worse comes to worse for my sister and she ends up with her cars going into repossession and house into foreclosure, and she files bankruptcy, can she keep her house and one car, or would she have to sell them and start from rock bottom all over again?
I have a friend who is going through a financial hardship. NO FAULT OF HER OWN. Medical bills, etc.. Can she keep (and continue to pay) her house and her car if she files? If so which one. Can bankruptcy help her get new paments? Advise.
I used to live in County A for many years. I opened all of my debts with that address, and recently recieved 2 summons for credit card debt from that county’s court. I now live 2 1/2 hrs away, in County B, but still in the same state. I would like to file bankruptcy where i live now, in county B. Is that possible? Does it not matter where i file? I just want to make sure that after i file, those summons from county A will be dismissed for sure. Thanks!
I am 23 years old, in college part time and working part time. I am recently divorced and have about ,000 in loans and credit card bills I got stuck with that were all aqquired during the marriage. Since I can only afford minimum payments (and receive no financial aid) I feel like I should look into bankruptcy.
I have two credit cards, so If I file bankruptcy on just my loans (,000) and one credit card, does keeping the one credit card plus an account balance with Dell (for a laptop I financed) help my credit score at all, as opposed to filing on everything I owe?
And everyone says to do it before I get any older if I’m going to do it. And I don’t expect any new bills (I have a dependable car and low rent) anytime soon.
Sometimes I feel like bankruptcy is "cheating" but I had an extra income at the time I signed for the loans, and of course didn’t expect to get divorced. I feel helpless, as the balances barely go down and i’m spending money I need to live, or I’m going to have to quit school.
They will not hire me because they do not care what circumstances lead to bankruptcy. And each company who runs my credit history, this puts an "entry" on my credit, which makes my credit score go down even further. I cannot go without a job for another 2 or 3 years. Help!
At the beginning of this year I had finally paid off all my old debt. However, in some stupid moves that were started by someone I was with I managed to get myself an extra K into debt. While also trading in my car for a bit more expensive car. I purchased my home a little over a year ago and have always paid everything on time till the last couple months. Even then it wasn’t "late", only up to a couple weeks late rather than a full 30 days. If in the end, I am in a battle I won’t win and my only option remaining is to file bankruptcy..will I lose my home and vehicle? I know now they almost automatically put you in a payment plan, which I might not mind..but are payments affordable? Does that set up help you to retain ownership of your properties?
I’m also in Ohio if the laws make a big dif. The sad thing is though..that I know better than all of this, as I said I finally finished paying things off. I just made a REALLY stupid decision. I have never wanted to go back and change time so badly in my life!
I filed bankruptcy in september of this last year and heard that they can take your refund or a percentage of it. Is this true?
I’m trying to help out a friend, she has just filed bankruptcy, but she is wanting to know will he report on her husband;s credit as well. Or will the bankruptcy only affect her credit only?
I live in the state of Missouri and I have a large debt wrapped up in medical bills. ( a lil over 10,000) I have asked around but always get different answers. Can I file bankruptcy on my medical bills?
If I file for bankruptcy just for myself, all our (me and my wife) bank joint accounts will be affected?
Or she can keep her own accounts and half of the money in the joint account?
Can she keep the same joint checking account?
I’m on a limited income, but thousands in debt because I had to help my family. Now, I barely making payments, even with the help of a debt consolidation company, I got a summons from one of my cards. My mother said I should file for bankruptcy, but I heard that it does more harm than and it cost 00, which don’t have. I don’t know what to do anymore. Please help. ![]()
Lets say your an everyday person, and you have too much debt so you have to file bankruptcy, what happens to your debt and self? (is there a difference about what happens to credit card debt, and what happens to a utility bill debt?)
My brother is going to file bankruptcy next week. On one of his credit report there is an account that is MINE. How did it get there, i dont even have him as authorized user. (FYI we have same address, same last name). Experts tell me me not to worry about doing anything because when the court calls the creditor, (citibank) they wouldn’t have a record of having a credit card with them. I just wanted to get some comments here. Good Day ![]()
i don’t have the 00 to pay and it is a simple bankruptcy for one creditor just wondering if i can do it myself and just pay the state fee of 9?
