My brother is currently under an installments plan with the IRS to pay about 4,000 dollars of money due from 2004 because he took a second job and his employer was not withholding enough from his earnings. This year he may receive a refund of about 5,000 but he’s afraid the IRS will keep this money to settle the debt even though he is already on a payment plan. He is thinking of using this money to do repairs on his home.

So i have a k judgement against me and i don’t work and don’t have money. I was planning to try to settle this debt with a lower price by explaining to them my financial situation.
However, a friend of mine needs to lease 2 cars and his credit isn’t good enough so he asked me to be a cosigner for him. I understand that this can show on my credit as i’m the buyer (because there’s no real distinguishion on who’s the primary person on the loan). So can this result in them denying a settlement (thinking i just bought two nex and expensive cars) ?
They did run my credit score and it’s about 720 right now and the loan company DID say that i can be approved for the car loans.
it’s going to be for my brother in-law. so it’s really hard to deny, plus they already ran my credit and know the score… argh !

I am 15 gonna be 16 soon. Since I am 9, my mom gets angry easily. When she is moody or are angry at someone, she will always scold me, my older sister and older brother. She can be angry at us and scold us for more than a week. When one of us did something wrong, she will scold all three of us(as for the two other ones, their past history lecture will be dig out again. And of course, she will be mad at us for more than a week.) There was this one time my older sister was talking back to my mom and she got angry for over a MONTH. She scolded me and my sister. (even though I did nothing wrong at all that time.I was so quiet when they were arguing in the car but…in the end, she dug out all the past history again.Luckily for my brother, he went overseas study.) Not only that, she always think that she is correct even though sometimes when she knew she was wrong, she will never apologies and will find something else to scold us.
Not only that, she will tell all her friends and family about us. Saying how angry she is, how sad she is, how pitiful she is. And whats more…when she knew a stranger and started talking for 2 or 3 days, she will also tell them how pitiful she is. She always tell people how great a mother she is. For example, she said she made the dried carrot with some other ingredients for my dog. But in reality, she bought it from her friends. She always talk bad about us and never ever talk anything good about us. (negative thinking)
Not only that, she always criticizes me in whatever I did. All the things I did is not good enough for her. She even cursed my ambition to go bankrupt. And…she always remember the bad things and not the good ones. I’ve never been praise by her before only to be criticized.(Between, I’m not a bad girl. I’m like all the normal teen but I don’t rebel against my mom. I’m not an A-student but a B-student.)
She also always think of herself as a very pitiful woman. And sometimes, cried to herself just by thinking how pitiful she is. So…is she psycho? If she is,what should I do?

My in-laws purchased a home and got a loan under my wife’s name prior to us getting married. They used my wife’s name because they weren’t able to get a loan themselves. They make all the payments on the home. My wife and I don’t live there nor do we have any intention of living there as it’s in a bad location. I had no idea about it until after we were already married.
The in-laws are close to losing their business and can barely pay their bills. A bankruptcy seems imminent and i’m pretty sure the house which is mortgaged under my wife’s name will be foreclosed. Is there anything I can do to protect my wife and myself against this? If it makes a difference they just transferred the Deed to my mom in-law, but the loan isn’t. The home is worth 0k and they still owe 0k since they’ve been making interest only payments.
I worked really hard to get my credit score over 800. I want my own house!!! I couldn’t even qualify for any of the first time home buyer programs because of what my in-laws did under my wife’s name.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My brother suggested divorcing my wife (just on paper) so I can at least avoid ruining my credit.

I had co-sign for my brother’s car loan a month ago. I have very bad credit but they want to combine our income to lower his APR. I am filing for bankruptcy next month. Will the new loan effect my filing?
The car is not for me but I am on the loan.
My brother is keeping his car. He is on time with the payments. I just want to know will the new loan cause any drama or will I get denied due to the new loan.

My brother is buying a new home but is asking my dad to cosign on the mortgage. My dad just revealed to me that he is filing for bankruptcy in a few years if his situation does not get better. Would my dad’s filing for bankruptcy affect my brother’s mortgage, credit, etc?

My thinking is . That the people make too much money. Average 75 dollars an hour. They have the unions to fight for them. That cost a lot. They have big payout to their retirees. Why can’t they take a cut in pay? Get rid of the unions. have all the upper management take no bonuses. There is so much they could do to cut cost. My brother worked there for 3 years and was given 100 thousand dollars and a free car. This was fine and dandy till they couldn’t afford it anymore.
All the money they could have saved ,could be used to making fuel friendly cars at lower prices. Why by a ford,gm or chrysler, when it cost you more and the product is worse than the foreign cars?. You are paying 30 more per hour to get your domestic car. This is one side and I realize there are some benefits to helping them.I will write that latter. Plz don’t get offended I just want to hear all sides to this story.
Carguy I thought it was lower also. Today it was reported on cnn that the average was 75 per hour while `Japanese cars were 45.per hour. Like I said I know there is another side to this story. My family worked for GM and I am just saying what it feels like for people who do not have such cushy benefits. You know you would rather got down to 50 dollars and hour than not have a job at all.

My Dad, husband, and brother all were going to Vegas in June. ATA has went bankrupt. We called travelocity and they told us to go through the insurance company to get our money back. The ins. co. told us that bankruptcy is not covered under the policy. Shouldn’t ATA have to pay back all the people that haven’t used their tickets yet? Is there any way to get our money back or are we just scre###?

My brother’s wife leased an expensive car without his knowledge. She has tried returning the car and of course can’t, as in california you can not return a lease after the contract is signed. It seems as though she may have to file bankruptcy to get out of the lease. My brother’s name is not on the lease at all. I am worried that if she does file bankruptcy, his credit will suffer. Please HELP! Thank you.

My brother is 23 and makes about ,000 a year and has over ,000 in credit card debt. I don’t know how it happened, but it did. He still lives at home with my parents. Right now, with his level of debt, he can’t afford to live on his own. He wants to move out and get a place of his own though. Should he file for bankruptcy to help him out of this? Or should he stay home until it’s paid off, which will take many years.

OK, few questions. If someone has say, 25k in debt – credit cards, the like – is it really possible to call the companies and negotiate a settlement for less than owed? And #2, how does this reflect on the credit report?
My brother in law is telling me that he is inheriting about 30 thousand bucks soon, and will be calling his creditors (credit card debt only) and negotiating with them, telling them that he has to file for bankruptcy and offer them less than owed. He SAYS he can negotiate and get them to about .30 cent on the dollar.
Is this correct? And how does it appear on the credit report? I don’t believe him. He says that he wants to keep as much cash as possible to open a business in a year or so. I say he will regret it because of the marks on his report. Who is right?

A few months ago I took out a ,000 loan for my Father. I declined the first four times he asked. He kept on asking & it got to a point where I felt I was forced to apply & sign the documents because it was someone I had to do for him. He has poor credit & had already maxed my mother and sister out -s o I was next. It was hugely ignorant & immature of me to do so but he insisted it was for business & to "move the family ahead". I also had pressure from my mother and sister as my Dad is very convincing when he wants people to "move the family forward".
Anyway, long story short is that since then his drinking (he has a problem) has spiraled out of control over the past few months & he blew all the money whilst also making our live hell. Finally the entire family has seen the light & he will be moving out by next weekend & we will be getting on with our lives.
My mother is in 150K debt & she has no choice but to go bankrupt (see has been the one earning money over the years but unfortunately she hasn’t seen a cent & she has been forced to sign loan and credit card applications under duress). My sister is a teacher & is well paid so she’s fine. However I’m a full time student & only work 2 days a week & I can’t afford it. It was a huge gamble I took on my Dad’s character in hoping/expecting he’d do the right thing by us & it looks like it’s going to cost me more than I could afford.
Is there anything I could do so he’s accountable for the loan? (I live in Australia BTW) His credit rating is shocking so I can’t transfer it across. Legally is there anything I can do regarding signing under duress? He actually submitted the applications & made most of the phone calls himself pretending to be me (he’s my Father so he knows all my private details). It’s just without his support now the family will be very tight financially & I also have a younger brother who is still in school that needs looking after.
I’m not looking for anyone telling me how naive I was because I’m already well aware of this. However all other replies would be MASSIVELY appreciated!

My brother is going to file bankruptcy next week. On one of his credit report there is an account that is MINE. How did it get there, i dont even have him as authorized user. (FYI we have same address, same last name). Experts tell me me not to worry about doing anything because when the court calls the creditor, (citibank) they wouldn’t have a record of having a credit card with them. I just wanted to get some comments here. Good Day

The medical debt is due to my nephew, who was born not so healthy and had to get many surgeries and so much attention from different doctors at Children s hospital of Philadelphia (CHOPS). As of right now he is not delinquent on any credit cards, but I fear that soon he will. I am just trying to fine options for my brother. What can be his best alternative.
