its from a credit card debt, which was turned over to Arrow Financial Services (a debt collector), they in turn had Mann Bracken LLP (a national collection attorney network firm) contact me to settle the debt. I made arrangements to pay the debt, and was making monthly payments, directly taken from my checking account. After paying 00.00 over several months time, I received an "Agreed Judgment" from Mann Bracken in which Arrow Financial Services is the plaintiff and is seeking a judgment against me. I was in communication with Mann Bracken and was told to sign the Agreed Judgment and they would agree to not execute, abstract, or otherwise seek to enforce the agreed judgment during the term of our temporary agreement, as long as I (the defendant) complies with the payment terms. I agreed to pay 0.00 monthly directly from my checking account for 9 months, then the parties agree to review the matter again and attempt to negotiate a final settlement agreement.
This was in Sept of ‘09, in which I was dealing with my daughter and my grandson who were in crisis and our family was occupied with their issues, so I had every intention of signing the agreed judgment, but I got distracted and didn’t sign it, so at the end of Oct ‘09, a "Final Default Judgment" was issued against me. I of course called Mann Bracken and was told that after our agreed 9 month period of consistent monthly payments, they would have the judgment taken care of.
So I made my monthly payments every month, but in Dec ‘09 the money was never taken out of my account, so I called Mann Bracken, but the phone # was no longer in service. I tried several different #’s and all were disconnected, then I read on line that Mann Bracken had been investigated/sued and went into bankruptcy! So I then contacted Arrow Financial Services, spoke to a representative, explained the situation, and was told that a new debt collector attorney will be contacting me, but that has been 6 months now, and no one has contacted me.
What do I do? How do I settle the debt, I am more than willilng to settle, and what do I do about the Final Judgment? I’ve pulled my credit report from all 3 credit bureau agencies, and there is no judgment listed. I contested the debt with Arrow Financial, but after the investigation, the debt still stands in effect on all 3 credit bureaus.
Do I need to hire a lawyer?

I owe 200 for fitnessfirst gym fee and they send me to debt collector since I stopped paying for like 4 months. Now they mailed me for the second time, a 30 day notice. I am 17 years old, turning 18 in three months. I DON’T have a job. I do baby sit sometimes but that’s like 50 a week. There’s no way I can get 200. I would like to pay them because I don’t like owing people anything but is there a way maybe I can talk to them to settle for 150 or less?
my dad signed it with me

I have a debt collector pursuing me for a debt and I have offered a settlement agreement to satisfy my debt. I mailed the notice certified mail return receipt and it has been over 30-days and I have not received any response. In the beginning, the debt collector was very vigilant in calling me, however, after I offered this settlement, it seems nothing is going on. Anyone know what to do? Or, are there any laws to protect me?

I am young, and don’t own any property, and have no bills besides a cell phone. I made the mistake of maxing out a credit card when I was 18, and have been referred to a law office by a debt collector. Does this mean I will be going to court? is there anything I can do to avoid going? What should I expect if i go? or don’t go? What are the chances of settling it with the law office before the court date gets set? Any information on the topic would be greatly appreciated.

I recently gotten a debt collection notice for 00 on an account I have no distinct memory of, from over 6 years ago. The debt collector stated they bought the debt from citibank, citibank says they bought it from "verizon credit card", but cant give me a number to call "verizon credit card" to try and figure out what is going on. Now, from 1999-2001 I cleared and settled all my credit card accounts one by one, and I saved all my correspondence on these issues, but all of that was lost because they were stored in New Orleans at my father’s house. So basically I have these people trying to collect a debt I have no record of, whose latest action is from 2001, and they have suddenly listed this on my credit report, as if it was a new debt, from 2007 – which I am fairly certain is illegal. Anyone know the details on this sort of stuff?
After trying to work with this collection agency, now that I am sure that this is a junk debt, I am convinced these people are scam artists and know it. I called them and explained that I wanted to work with them to track back the company that initially owned the debt, and they said they didn’t care, that I owed them money, and that since they bought the debt this month, it IS a new debt, and that they could report it as so., because I "took action on the debt simply by calling them" I told them that legal counsel has advised me otherwise, and that in the state of Texas last monetary action on the date of the debt is what matters, not phone contact, which is true, and they hung up on me. My lawyer, who isn’t in this sort of law, is sending them the certified letter, following OCT1999’s recommendations. Thanks SO much! I was about to shell out the 2500 because this has dropped my credit rating from 750 to 590, and my job is at risk b/c of it, but now I am going to fight it.

I want to start paying off my old credit card and (1) cell phone debts, but now 4 of them are up to ,000. And 1 is 0. I didn’t even get up to those amount on each debt. It was all the debt collector companies. Is there a way I can settle with them for what my original bill was? I thought that was allowed, (to only pay what you originally owed). They are all asking for more than they should because they want money in their pockets and I’m not paying them! I want to pay my original bill and be done with it. Is that possible? And I don’t mean call the original company because I know that they don’t own the bill anymore, but most of the added on fees was from the debt collector and I don’t want to pay them. Also, A lot of them say, "No debit card numbers, only bank number and check numbers." I refuse to give my bank account numbers! And I don’t trust money orders. What if it gets lost in the mail somehow and I put 0 on one.. Then I would have just lost 0 dollars. There is no insurance on the things. At least if I give my debit card numbers, if something goes wrong then I can cancel my debit card and get another. So, what should I do? I want to get all these debts settled before my bf and I get our first apartment that he has to put under his name because i’m an idiot and screwed up my credit at 18! Doy!

I called a debt collector to try and settle an account, and I thought since THEY are recording the conversation then I could too. So i did.. I have this girl recorded saying she would accept a 0 settlement and that she had to have my bank account information. I accepted that settlement amount but refused to give her my account information. I said I’d only give her a money order. Somehow, conveniently the phonecall disconnected. I called back and a guy told me the lowest they would go is 0. Of course I want to pursue this, that is a 0 difference. So should I call them back and tell them "Hey buddy, I got the conversation recorded where your employee offered to ACCEPT 0 ?~? Or will I get in trouble since I didn’t anounce at the beginning I was recording??

A debt collector says I owe 1800 dollars, but will settle for two payments of 672 dollars. I offered 50 a month but he refused it saying I had to pay the 2 payments of 672. What will he do if I don’t pay. The debt is for furniture.

I spoke to the debt collector and they gave me 2 options at taking care of this debt. I can either settle for a lump sum, which I cannot afford, or make monthly payments of an amount that I cannot afford. I told them I could do lower monthly payments, but they did not accept that offer. What can I do? Any advice or personal experiences is greatly appreciated! I want to pay my debt but I don’t know how to do that if they aren’t working with me at this point. Thank You!

Hi,
I have two tickets from almost 3 years ago that I forgot about/never paid, and now the DMV has suspended my license!
They say I owe them ,800 and that the file is now with collections. The person I spoke with says that I must pay every cent to them in full and that they’ll never lift the suspension.
Is this true? Or is their debt collector trying to do a good job?
I looked online but can’t seem to find a resource to resolve/settle this debt. Most debt settlements will let you pay like 50% and will remove the debt. This happened 3 years ago!
What can I do? Must I pay them nearly k for two tickets I forgot to pay 3 years ago??
Thanks for your advice.
Charles
The tickets are 1) a cracked windshield ticket and 2)driving without vehicle registration(or possibly insurance)
No traffic tickets or anything very serious.
Thanks!

I am mulling an offer from a debt collector for Citibank visa on my wifes account. The account was already charged off by citibank and now in the hands of the collector. The offer to settle is very good but its almost 3000 dollars off and i am afraid the reduced debt will be taxed like crazy by IRS. I really dont have to settle because my wife is on Social Security disability and cannot be garnised as per law. Does anyone know what the tax hit would be? Its about 3k off the original debt.

I settled with a debt collector years ago. Got a letter stating paid in full. Apparently the main company didn’t like the way they did business and went with another collector. Now they are calling me because the main company didn’t want settlements, they wanted to be paid in full, so they want the remainder. Allowable? Any recourse?

What’s the point in paying a debt collector if the derogatory item will remain on your credit report for 7 years from the issue date?
If the debt collector doesn’t agree in writing to delete it from your credit report, what incentive would anybody have to settle the debt??

I made a negotiated payment of 00 to a debt collector (the total had been over k) to end my obligations. How long will this tarnish my credit? This was not done through an intermediary.

I am wondering if I should make payment arrangements with this debt collector, if they will eventually offer a better deal. I owe on 2 credit cards, one for ,934 at 12% and the other for 93 at 24% interest. They are willing to make payment arrangements but I think there must exist a wiser solution. Does anyone know what that would be?

If a deliquent credit card account was charged off by the original lender, can you still offer to pay the account in full even if a debt collector has aquired it and has served you with a summons to appear? I’d could probably get the money to pay it in full, or at least enough to make a good lump sum offer, but I’d rather settle it with the original lender if possible?
