Credit Card Debt and Collection Agencies?

I’m a 29 year old teacher. I’ve accumulated about 00 in credit card debt since I was in college. I cut up my credit cards about three years ago & have been paying on the balances, but card I fell 9 months behind. The minimum payment was over 200 a month and on a teacher’s salary, I just could not make it. They’d send me settlement deals, but I didn’t even have money to settle. I’d send them periodic payments to try to show them I was at least trying. Now, they’ve sent my account to a Debt Collection Agency. The collection agency seems to want me to come up with the entire amount or file bankrupcy. Is there any way I can get a big debt collection company to work with me on small payments until I can get ahead? I recently took a part time job to give me extra income to work with. I don’t want file bankrupcy @ this age and it is the only marr on my credit report. How can I get them to give me repayment options in writing? They want me to do everything over the phone. Help!
The lame teacher’s excuse, is not an excuse. In the state of Montana, a beginning teacher’s salary is barely ,000 a year and with student loans, a rent payment, insurance, etc., at the end of the month I have maybe left over.

Also, I have tried debt consolidation and because I work "-" in the red each month, they would not take me.

My husband and I separated. I can’t make ends meet. I can’t catch up on bills! Should I file bankruptcy?

I am in over my head in debt. Every month I have to "borrow" at least 0 extra dollars just to pay my bills. My husband and I recently separated. He left me to take care of all the bills. Currently I am a 4th grade teacher and make about ,000 a year. That would be a great salary if I didn’t have to pay every cent to a bill collector.

Every debt is in my name (including a car that I got in my name for him, that he now refuses to pay for because someone else put another car in their name for him–his sister). I already had a car of my own. Now I have two. He didn’t have a job at the time, so most of the major stuff that we have gotten was in my name when we got married.

I am probably about ,000 in debt with credit cards; ,000 in student loans–I know you can’t put them on bankruptcy…I plan to pay them and go back to school next summer; 00 in personal loans; ,000 in car payments (2 cars–1 is almost paid for).

I have no extra income other than the child support (5 a month for 2 small babies that I raise alone). I use the child support on them instead of on me or bills because that is what it is for.

Am I an idiot for trying to pay all these bills off monthly and have no money extra to buy groceries and gas???Should I just file bankruptcy?

Is it wrong to want to…?

stay home with your child the first 2 – 3 years of their life?

This is what I want to do, I especially don’t want them going to a daycare/babysitters until they can talk and tell me about their day!

Yes, I know that with another income that life would be much more comfortable, but what is important to me is being there to see those first cute things they do and say. Do you guys believe that it’s true that the first few years of a kids life and how they are raised during that time make them who they are going to be when they grow up for the most part?

I’m not saying that I’ll continue to stay home even if we are about to go bankrupt, but just that I would sacrifice that extra income to spend those first years with my baby.

Does anyone else feel this way?

It seems that lots of ppl think I’m crazy for not wanting to go back to work a few months after the baby is born bc of the second income. It’s just hard for me to agree with them, I guess.
Sorry forgot to mention that my fiance and I are getting married this Summer, we don’t have kids yet, but he has a steady full time job that pays pretty good!
My fiance says that it’s "unfair" that he has to bring in all the income so that I can stay home all day with the kids. But you know, I’m not going to be staying at home to be lazy, I want to raise my child. He says "there are grandparents and daycare." I don’t want that though. I also said, well what if you are making enough but he is convinced that he won’t be making enough for us to live comfortably without me working. Any ideas how I should approach this subject again? It’s really bugging me. He says I’m being selfish, but I’m just trying to be a good parent bc look at how messed up this world is these days. My mom never worked, my dad always did, and I cherish that so much, having a full time "mom." AH, I dont know!

should I file for bankruptcy?

I am 23 years old, in college part time and working part time. I am recently divorced and have about ,000 in loans and credit card bills I got stuck with that were all aqquired during the marriage. Since I can only afford minimum payments (and receive no financial aid) I feel like I should look into bankruptcy.
I have two credit cards, so If I file bankruptcy on just my loans (,000) and one credit card, does keeping the one credit card plus an account balance with Dell (for a laptop I financed) help my credit score at all, as opposed to filing on everything I owe?
And everyone says to do it before I get any older if I’m going to do it. And I don’t expect any new bills (I have a dependable car and low rent) anytime soon.
Sometimes I feel like bankruptcy is "cheating" but I had an extra income at the time I signed for the loans, and of course didn’t expect to get divorced. I feel helpless, as the balances barely go down and i’m spending money I need to live, or I’m going to have to quit school.
