How come Obama's favorite greenie company has the FBI at their doorstep?

The F.B.I. on Thursday raided the office of a California solar company that borrowed 8 million from the federal government before filing for bankruptcy, as House Republicans announced that they would call two top Obama administration officials to testify about the case next week.

The federal agents, acting in a joint investigation with the inspector general of the Department of Energy, served search warrants on Solyndra, which announced last week that it was filing for bankruptcy protection. The search was part of an investigation into the loans Solyndra received from the Treasury Department that were guaranteed by the Department of Energy under a highly promoted federal stimulus program.

Solyndra was a leading beneficiary of the Energy Department’s programs to promote alternative energy, which were expanded as part of the 2009 economic stimulus legislation.

George Kaiser, an Oklahoma billionaire, is one of the largest investors in Solyndra through Argonaut Ventures and a family foundation, and he was also a donor to Mr. Obama’s 2008 campaign. The company had begun preparing its federal loan application well before the election.

Oh did I mention that you can subtract 1,700 MORE jobs that Obama has lost read the article

would bankruptcy be a good choice?

Long story short in order for my parents to obtain their home I co-signed. Then they obtained a modification for 50 thousand. Up until yesterday I didn’t know that my parents were told to stop paying for the second loan of 50 and now they owe that amount. The realtor suggested filing for bankruptcy. I was shocked I told him im 23 years old how the hell would filing for bankruptcy look on my credit. Mind you my credit looks awful due to my parents not being able to afford their home. However the realtor said that it wasn’t that bad that id be able to get my own home and obtain loans in 2 years. I was told that if my parents file bankruptcy and I don’t that the entire loan would fall on me and I would owe that entire amount. Im just soo pissed that my parents would allow this to fall on my shoulders. On one hand if I don’t include myself in the home modifications my parents will loose their home but if I do my credit and the ability for me to ever buy my own home is f—. Would bankruptcy really be the way out ?? please help any advice or input helps im in such a predicament that I feel any decision I make im screwed either way.

hello everyone. My question is how long does it take for someone to file for bankruptcy the second time?

if someone had filed in 2003 for instance how long would it take to refile? I gave this example because I have heard that the laws have changed in recent years. Also, can anyone give me some examples of the side effects this would cause by filing for bankruptcy a second time and is it much more difficult when you file again than the first time? Thanks a bunch for your help.

Bankruptcy inevitable – Foreclosure, Short Sale, or Deed In Lieu of Foreclosure?

I am facing bankruptcy. And I have 3 houses (2 of which I will be forfeiting) Before I file, I am wondering if it makes sense to negotiate a short sale or deed in lieu of foreclosure on the two houses that are not my primary residence. I already understand the tax implications of a short sale.
I want to do what is best for my future credit and home purchasing ability.
I plan to purchase another home in 10-15 years.
My question is two parts:

1. If I file bankruptcy, what happens with the houses I forfeit?

2. Will I be in a better position by dealing with the mortgage companies to arrange something before I file bankruptcy?

I understand that loan applications frequently ask if you have EVER had a foreclosure. I am wondering if filing for bankruptcy implicitly mean the house is foreclosed upon? If so, I can save myself trouble of dealing with the mortgage companies, and just declare bankruptcy. If not, I would like to salvage as much as I can.

filing for chapter 13 bankruptcy?

I am thinking of filing for chapter 13 bankruptcy. I don’t qualify for chapter 7. There is a few things I don’t understand, if I owe a total of 30,000 with creditors, some of which had interest and late fees accumulate. Will I be able to have the court take of the interest that accumulated. For instance I have a credit card with 00 balance and due to late payments & interests its 00. Will I be able to remove the extra 00 that was incurred.

Can I file the paper work myself? What would it entail? I checked a lawyer in NY and he wanted 00. The reason why I am filing for bankruptcy is because I can’t afford the bills. Does anyone know the typical fee for a bankruptcy attorney in NYC.

Do I have to pay the attorney in full for the creditors to stop calling?
How does filing chapter 13 affects getting a job down the road, particularly in the engineering field, IE utility, phone, construction etc.?

Discharging a debt during bankruptcy?

My wife is filing for bankruptcy and one of our creditor’s is Kay Jewelers. We bought our wedding rings through them back in 2008. We received a letter in the mail today saying that they may have a non-dischargeability cause of action against us if we don’t turn our rings over, which we really don’t want to have to do. I know that it seems like the sensible thing to do and we can’t really afford to pay off the debt. Is there any alternative to giving the rings back or paying the debt?
Thank you all for answering so quickly. First, I am not on any of her loans/ debts so it wasn’t really advisable that I file as well. The only thing I have in my name is my student loans and our car (which the person who helped us file our paperwork said we wouldn’t need to worry about since the title is in my name). With that said, while we were filling out our paperwork, there is a section that you get to put items that you would like to have exempt from the bankruptcy i.e. jewelry, clothes, electonics… and you’re allowed up to a certain value for each item. Our rings fell way below the limit so we were told that we could keep them. Lastly, and unfortunately, it was a secured loan so they are saying that the rings are collateral and they have the right to either take them back or have us pay it back.

Should I file bankruptcy or wait it out?

My divorce was finalized in October and I’m currently not working and I’m attending college full-time. I lost my old job about a year and a half ago, and haven’t been able to find one since. I live in Michigan and the job market is awful here. I graduate in about a year and a half. I’m living with my boyfriend now and he provides for my needs.
I have about 00 in outstanding debts and another 00 in attorneys fees from my divorce.
Some of the debt is from my ex-husband who was ordered to pay his part and was given 90 days to settle with me. It’s been well over 90 days now, and I cannot locate him and his attorney hasn’t been able to find him either. My attorney said that in order to file a motion against his not paying, she needs to be paid what I already owe her.
I obviously cannot pay this without a job, and my boyfriend doesn’t make enough to pay my bills.
So, I was wondering, would I be better off just filing for bankruptcy or waiting to try to pay these things off after I graduate and hopefully obtain a good job?
If I do file bankruptcy, would the attorney’s fees that I owe from the divorce be able to be dismissed under the bankruptcy?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you!
I have a 2 year old son that I take care of full time during the day while my boyfriend works. My classes are at night so my boyfriend watches my son while I’m in school. A minimum wage job would not cover the cost of daycare in our area. Believe me, I’ve looked into every reputable place there is. an hr at a burger joint, even working a full 40 hr week … take home would be around 0 per wk. Daycare runs about 0 per wk. Being away from my son all day long is not worth making per wk.

What happens to a person's mortgage payments when they file for bankruptcy? Do just the late fees go away?

I was looking to buy I house that some friends of freinds owned. I had been told they were going to lose the house due to foreclosure. They ended up filing for bankruptcy. What happens with this house case? Are they just forgiven for missed payments and late fees or is there a chance they can lose the house after all? I am still interested in the property. I don’t know them well enough to bring this up with them personally. From what I understand thgey had already made alterntive living arrangments. I’m just trying to gauge what my chance of acquiring this property is

Should i file for bankruptcy?

I currently owe 00 in hospital bills. But have no way to pay them off. No one in my family has much to give, even if they were willing to help out.
I am currently 24 years old, with just a part time job, making very little money. I was thinking of moving back to the philippines where tuition for school woud be cheaper, and i can get a degree in nursing.
I’m trying to think of what the best thing for me to do is.
What are the disadvantages of filing for bankruptcy?
Please help anyone. I really need it.
i appreciate the responses so far, guys.
for those that asked, trust me i am looking real hard to find a job that pays more money, and i am willing to work hard no matter what kind of job it is.
I need to do more research on bankruptcy, how much would it cost me to file, for 00 medical bill?

I really want to buy a house in the future, hopefully before age 32, but how hard would that be if i’m in bankruptcy?
Thanks a lot for the responses! it really feels i’m getting helped out already.
First i will, take account every response given to me.
Still living with my parents, helping them pay the financing on the mortgage alone (not the principal), with a part time job so far, is the situation i’m in.
Again i really appreciate the responses.

Is Filing For Bankruptcy In Retirement A Good Thing?

The number of people filing for bankruptcy protection in retirement has soared in recent years — even before the recession.

In fact, people 65 and older are the fastest-growing segment of the population seeking bankruptcy protection, according to a recent study from the University of Michigan Law School.

The problem is simple math, said Johanna Sweaney Salt, a CPA with Kaufman, Schmid, Gray & Salt in Claremont, Calif. Their medical expenses, taxes and other costs keep going up, while their income is going down. Social Security hasn’t had a cost-of-living adjustment in a long time and pensions and retirement accounts took a huge hit during the recession. Reverse mortgages and other alternatives presented to them as "solutions" often just dig them further in the hole.

"Most people think ‘Oh, I have Medicare — I’m covered,’" said Jean Setzfand, director of financial security at the AARP. "But in fact, there are quite a lot of out-of-pocket expenses — and those continue to rise." The biggest one, she said, is long-term care costs. Plus, a lot more people are going into retirement carrying a mortgage. So it is not so good as we think

Can I file for bankruptcy, should I?

I had very good credit. Two years ago, however, I was forced to lose my home to foreclosure. Actually, it was two houses. After that, my big credit cards were cut or reduced, however, I never stopped giving payments. I’ve always been in good standing. I always give more than the minimum payment. Things were okay after the foreclosures, I could still afford to pay my balances, and it was all just alright.

However, about maybe 3 months ago, I started thinking about filing for bankruptcy. My cards weren’t maxed out, but I was still finding it a little bit harder to make payments. Then, business started thriving again, and that’s where I started spending more. I’d never maxed out my cards. Now, they are full. So, basically, three months later, I find myself in the same situation. Business has gone down once again (even worst than the first time) and now it’s getting tougher and tougher to make payments. Up until this month I still made some big purchases. A dslr camera, and somethings because I could still afford it. 2 months ago I bought me a fridge (2,000) dollars. Business is completely dying, but I’m afraid of filing from bankruptcy and having my things taken away… How long should I wait before I file for bankruptcy? I’m also afraid of being charged for something I honestly had no thought of doing (stealing the banks so much money) I would say I’m about 10,000 dollars in debt (i know it’s not a lot, but for me at the moment it is…)

What should I do? How long would it be reasonable to wait so the court doesn’t think I went and maxed out my cards before i filed for bankruptcy? (seriously, that was not my intention) A couple of months would be good? With my small savings I think I could still afford to make the minimum payments… HELP
I don’t know what I was thinking when I said I’m 10,000 (I was thinking just about a few cards) dollars in debt. I am about 50,000 dollars in debt. If not, more. Like I said, I had great income, and very big cards.
Spalmer: I’ve always known how to manage my credit. I’ve never been a big spender. My business was a thriving one for 14 years. I’m a wedding planner, and believe it or not, I made the big bucks there. Somehow, things are not the same. I also had another business, a small landscape designs. Things happen. At the end, yes, I might have spent much more than I should have, but i DID have the money to do so. Its just that you never think something bad is ever going to happen to you.
I’m sorry not saying what my income was. It’s about 100,000 but, like I said, I’m nowhere near making that. I do not own expensive car. The home I recently (2 yrs ago) purchased I bought cash.
