can college students file for bankruptcy?

I am a college student. Directly after high school I had a run in with some credit cards. I went through a rough time, in and out of hospitals, taking classes and dropping them and dealing with family illnesses and a miscarriage… I was working two jobs and paying my bills, until I could not longer pay them. I want to file for bankruptcy but do not know how it will effect my student loans or financial aid.. Help! I need to find a banktruptcy attorney and/or financial advisor.

My son's tax debt and his financial aid?

My son owes over 15K in back taxes because he hasn’t filed a return in 5 years. I can’t pay it (and I don’t think I should) and he can’t pay it in full. He doesn’t have a good job because he is still in college. Will this affect his financial aid? Also, what are his options to settle this tax debt?

Should I declare bankruptcy?

I have had two financial advisers tell me to declare bankruptcy when I graduate from college, or sooner to eliminate my credit card and school loan debt, and one telling me that I should probably get more financial aid (all from different firms)…. The interest rates on private loans for schools are ridiculous (I am going through Sallie Mae), and I am already freaking out about how much I am going to have to pay back…

I don’t really have any family, and I am currently in my Junior year in college. I have been working full time, and paying my school on my credit cards, apartment etc etc.. (I have 3 with a total of 00 credit line, and they are usually maxed out when new semesters start). I get a little bit of money from the federal government (FAFSA) for school, but it obviously is not enough… I also have a bit of private loans from my grand mother who is co-signing for them.

So should I declare? When if I should?

I am not trying to skeeze my way out of it, and I am fine with paying it all back with the career I get when I graduate, but I am really scared about the whole thing (private loans), and I would like to know if there is an ALTERNATIVE route without having to sell my first born child. The gov. and my full time job do not provide enough income for school and such, and I can only work so much taking an average of 18 credit hours a semester.

If I declare bankruptcy, will it affect my grandmother since she is co-signing?

Please help me out. I am open to all constructive help and legitimate ideas that don’t involve anything illegal.

Financial Help Please? Should I file Bankruptcy? Do I qualify?Debt Settlement?

I am 25 years old. I am a full time College student (I go to school with the help of financial aid). I live in Chicago, IL if it matters. I am ,000.00 in debt, mostly due to interest and overlimit fees. I have a car that I pay 0.00 a month for which will be paid off in 2 months. However, I only make 0 a month. That 0 includes my gas bill, electric, cell phone, car payment, insurance, groceries, ect. What should I do? What are my best options? I can only pay about 0 a month towards my debt? Should I file bankruptcy?

I am about to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and I have questions!?

I am one of the hapless folks who found myself ensnared in the subprime lending fiasco, and am now faced with no other choice than to file a chapter 7. (I am in CA.) I’ve been toying with the idea of a career change, and I have been looking into several culinary arts programs at different schools. I know that I will need financial aid, but I am not sure if that’s going to be possible with a Chapter 7 under my belt. Does anyone know if a Chapter 7 will render me completely unable to obtain any educational assistance? Another thing I am wondering is, I own property (in this case my home) with another person who is not declaring bankruptcy. (My domestic partner.) My atty says that since we have no equity in our home it won’t be used as collateral, especially since we’ve managed to stay current on our payments, but that my creditors can lien her portion of the property for my debts. What does this mean exactly? And is there any way to avoid this? Any help is appreciated!

Bankrupt? How does it work?

So, I’m in a ton of debt and I can’t keep up with it.

I’m thinking about filing bankrupt.

How does this work?

Do I have to have a lawyer?

How much does it cost (with and without a lawyer)?

Do I have to know all of my debts or can they pull it up for me?

I’m 26 years old…..so I figure if I’m never going to be able to pay off all of my debt, I might as well claim it now so hopefully someday I can start over with a somewhat clean slate.

Also, what all can you claim? I have…hospital bills that have been sent to collection agencies, fees at places like..movie rental, furniture rental, etc, old utility bills, etc etc etc.

Will this hurt my chance of getting financial aid when I go back to college next year?

How do I settle a debt with my college's bursar office?

I went to CUNY Laguardia COllege here in NYC back in 2006. It was my first semester as a Freshman and decided to take a few classes. Unfortunately since I was working full time, I did not qualify for financial aid. I was told that I could take my three classes and just pay my debt off to the Bursar Office. Unfortunately I passed only 1 class and because of relationship problems I did not finish the last two. Now I have a debt of ,500.00 to pay off. This has discouraged me from going back to college. I would very much like to go back, but want to take the appropriate steps to resolve this debt in the most affordable fashion. Is there anything I can do to dispute the total amount?? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

should I file for bankruptcy?

I am 23 years old, in college part time and working part time. I am recently divorced and have about ,000 in loans and credit card bills I got stuck with that were all aqquired during the marriage. Since I can only afford minimum payments (and receive no financial aid) I feel like I should look into bankruptcy.
I have two credit cards, so If I file bankruptcy on just my loans (,000) and one credit card, does keeping the one credit card plus an account balance with Dell (for a laptop I financed) help my credit score at all, as opposed to filing on everything I owe?
And everyone says to do it before I get any older if I’m going to do it. And I don’t expect any new bills (I have a dependable car and low rent) anytime soon.
Sometimes I feel like bankruptcy is "cheating" but I had an extra income at the time I signed for the loans, and of course didn’t expect to get divorced. I feel helpless, as the balances barely go down and i’m spending money I need to live, or I’m going to have to quit school.
