I am starting to interview for legal assistant positions. Will my background be a huge problem?

I’m wondering how to deal with (on my resume and in person) some issues. I’m in my early 30s and was divorced five years ago. The divorce and some health issues caused me to go bankrupt a couple years after that. I also dropped out of grad school (I had an A average, but I hated the school and honestly was just too immature at the time to deal with marriage and living 700 miles from my family). Will an attorney know I’m bankrupt? Does it make me look really bad? I was always a good student and worker, but the divorce and illness messed up my life for awhile. I went back to school to try to get my finances in a better position.

My parents are buying me a house but I need to file bankruptcy. What should I do to keep my home safe?

I am very nervous about what can happen to my home. I am waiting for a closing date as my parents gave me money to purchase a modest home. I am married and my husband and I need to file bankruptcy. We lost our home to forclosure a few years ago, lost our vehicles and had some credit cards. My parents want to see me enjoy part of my my inheritance now and I also have health issues that allow me to only work part time. I know I need to contact an attourney but I dont have the money for that yet. We are still renting but will be closing within the next 2 weeks. What should we do when we file? Again, the home will be only in my name which I am not sure if this will help or not. My husband has some personal credit issues and I as well. But, most of our issues are together. We believe we should file a chapter 13. He is a school teacher and I am a part time self employed music teacher. He also owes a lot of money on student loans from getting his Bachelors degree. I am 51 years old, am very grateful to my parents yet very nervous about losing my home. Thank you !
My parents do not want the home in their name as they do not want to pay Insurance and taxes among other reasons. I have heard of many people owning homes and filing chapter 13. If this is the answer do you think we need to do it soon so the courts do see that we are trying to resolve the issue after recieving this gift? They will also see that our hardship and loss was due to my husband being in the mortgage industry and my health issues.
Thank you for your answers. Here is my second question to my second answer.
We had put down a chunk of money for escrow. We were to close a few weeks ago until Fannie Mae said that they need go over the homes forclosure papers. Something was not done exact. I and Fannie Mae signed an extension. Can I back out of the deal and do the bankruptcy then look again for a home again? Or, will I lose the escrow money which my dad would kill me for that. That is my concern now?
Omg… yes they paid cash…. And, yes it is in my name only.

is it okay to settle my $1600 debt?

So I opened a credit card as a freshman in college (2008) and ended up losing my job and never paid off the debt. Collection agencies have been blowing up my phone and sending letters trying to collect the almost 00 that I owe. I am presently unemployed due to health issues and have no way to pay off all the debt now. They are offering me the option of settleing the debt but i dont want it to ruin my credit score. what should i do?

I have no other credit cards in my name, only the hospital bills i have been paying on from three surgeries and the hospital stays and what not. will paying these bills on time and in full help my credit score?

Can I buy a home after going bankrupt – or is there a better alternative to bankruptcy?

I’m hoping to get some honest answers from either those who have gone through the process, or those who work in finances. And yes, I plan to speak with a professional advisor, but want to get some opinions first. I live in Canada.

Over the past few years, I’ve had some health issues that have made it impossible to work steadily, and I’ve built up way too much debt because of it. I (always) pay my credit cards on time, but I’m only paying the minimum, so the debts aren’t going down at all, plus the payments are made from my overdraft…and recently, I was injured at work and now only make just over half my regular income, so it’s even harder to pay the bills. I don’t know what the best option is for me because my partner and I wish to buy a home in the future but I’ve been set back quite a bit and don’t know where to start. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mobile Homes is it a good alternative?

I’ve had a bankruptcy due to being off work for an extended time because of health issues, now I’m returning to work. I’m interested in purchasing another home, but 1 my bankrupcy obviously 2. I want something that is less upkeep, and I think this would be more reasonable. However I live in tornado alley, my friend said they have tie downs and things they can do to secure things now.

Recommendations please.
