I have an attorney who has been negotiating with another attorney who is attempting to get a judgment against me for CC debt originally in the amount of ,300. I had been served but do not yet have a court date. The judgment paperwork states the judgment at ,000. We have been negotiating for several months, I have offered a lump sum payment of K, which was refused and they asked for K. Payments on k with K down and 0/month (which is all that I can afford), they came back with .1K and 0 a month and 00 down. I just don’t have the cash to do this. It seems they are asking for an exorbitant amount. I’ve worked with many other creditors and they have settled, usually for less than the actual debt, but this guy is being a real knucklehead. At this point I either have to come up with the .5K or take my chances in court. Any suggestions? I’d like to settle this, but I think they are asking way too much. Just FYI…I ended up at this point because I broke my back 5 years ago and became disabled and ended up loosing my house, car and not paying many of my CCs. I’ve been trying to settle most of my past debts

I filed for bankruptcy about a month ago, and paid him in full last week for chapter 7. Well my bills for my loans and credit cards are due again and I’m wondering do I still have to pay them since i already paid my lawyer and filled out all the paperwork for the chapter 7. Or do I just let it ride until he does whatever it is he does?

I’ve learned that it costs money to file for bankruptcy. I think a little less than 0 if I do it myself and ,300 if I go to an attorney and they take care of most of the paperwork for me.
Problem is, I don’t even have enough money to file for bankruptcy where’s I’d do it myself. One of the loan agencies that I’m paying back that’s part of my major debt won’t let me borrow if it’s for bankruptcy. What do I do? Who do I turn to for this? At this point in time, wiping away my debt is the only answer. I know my credit will be shot for the next 5 to possibly 7 years, but it’s the only real option I have right now because I can’t afford to back back my creditors at this point in time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am considering filing for bankruptcy due to extensive medical bills. I have a car that was totalled, but I owe ,000. I had a co-signer sign for the car. Does anyone know what happends to that person after i file?
Do I get to keep the car? The car has no value and barely drives.
Also does anyone know of inexpensive alternatives to using a bankruptcy lawyer. In california we had a legal document service called "We the People" I am residing in TX.
Can i do the paperwork myself?

I agreed to use a certain company over the phone but now regret that decision. They are sending paperwork so I haven’t signed anything yet. I would rather settle the debts on my own. Does anyone know if I can back out of this situation? Thanks!!!

Here’s the story. We have been tricked before. In the past we had a broker that said our loan to buy a house was approved, showed us a phony letter from I don’t know who and after 2 months she mentioned that bank that approved us went into bankrupt. Yes, sounds like BS. Now, I came to realize I was missing a year of 1099 for me to get really approved so I guess she didn’t want to lose a client and lied about it. Finally I filed my second year of 1099 and around 2 weeks I sent all my info for me to get the loan process started. The same broker is working on my stuff but, I figured since I got all my paperwork now why not give it a second chance? Until today all I know is that I have been approved for 0K. I found a few houses but, I won’t have peace of mind until I physically get a loan approval document which I still haven’t seen/received. How do you truly know you have been approved? where and how do I request this? How would I know the letter/document is not fake? I’m tired of people that play dirty in the real state market. PLEASE HELP!

So if i buy a Corvette, and GM goes bust in a few months, and my car is financed by GMAC, does that mean I get the car for free?
If they go bankrupt, they went out of business, therefore have no business in having a creditor come after me, when they themselves are gone, and already have filed the paperwork saying they can’t afford to pay anyone back

My mother is bed ridden and unable to go to a lawyer’s office to file bankruptcy papers for herself. I am wondering I am with my rights to do so on her behalf as her legal power of attorney?
How does someone who is bed ridden and infirmed to the point that they cannot travel file for bankruptcy? She is not able to go do an office visit and needs someone to come to her residence to sign the paperwork. I am asking this question because I thought I could do so as her representative and legal power of attorney.

I want to file bankruptcy but can’t afford an attorney & the only legal aid office around has a waiting list. I have been researching and it looks pretty difficult to do it by yourself. I do have a house & almost every site I go to says that if any of the paperwork is filled out incorrectly I could lose my house. I live in Arizona, have you or anyone you know filed for bankruptcy without a lawyer? Is it really that difficult?

I just had my car repo’d last night, and I am in the process of filing bankruptcy. I have the paperwork, but it hasn’t been turned in yet. Can I still file on it even though it has been repossessed? I live in Indiana.
Thanks in advance for answers.

I want to file for bankruptcy on my own without a lawyer. Besides filling out paperwork, do I need to appear in court? I see no other way than filing bankruptcy to get out of debt. Credit counseling is not helping and I want to start fresh. I have learned my lesson.

I mean why pay an attorney 2,000 to file when you can go get the paperwork yourself, and do it? Any thoughts? Has anyone filed themselves before?

I live in Michigan and need to file bankruptcy. However, even doing that costs money that I really don't have. I know that I can file it myself and save on lawyer fees, but I don't know how hard the paperwork is to do.
I don't own any real property, nor do I have any mortgage debt. I currently do not have any income – I'm going to school. Mostly its credit card and various other stuff thats almost 5-8 years old now.
Has anyone done this before? And how difficult was it?
Or if I should pay to have it done, does anyone know of a low cost way to go?
Thanks ahead of time!
The debt amount is around ,000

when you decide to hire an attorney? I completed all the paperwork and made all the necessary copies. I also paid the bankruptcy fee. I started getting nervous and hired and attorney for 5.00. He did 2 addendums and never went to court with me. He said that I had to go Chapter 13. I hired him in Oct. of 2006 and his paralegal contacted me twice by phone and once by mail. In Jan. of 2007 he went court to be release as the Attorney of Record. He told the court that I never contacted him. I feel like I'm being cheated. He never did the Chapter 13 paperwork or 7? What can I do?
