Can i re-build credit after a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy with an Auto lease instead of a Credit Card?

I recently declared Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. I re-affirmed my Auto Lease. Will this help to re-build my credit score? I’ve heard the "get a credit card and use some and pay-off or keep 10%" idea. But can the lease have the same effect without having to open another credit card agian? I am looking for the easiest way to build credit without a credit card. But if i have to, i guess i will.

What happens if Liberals finally get their Socialist Utopia – then what?

1: in order to get to "utopia" we will need thousands of more entitlement programs, handouts, etc.

2: We’re bankrupt already – and can not afford the current entitlement programs

3: Our debt is already at unprecedented levels.

So, how are we going to pay for current entitlement programs, future entitlement programs, and Trillions of dollars of debt all the while jobs continue to disappear overseas?

Obama can’t keep spending his way to wealth forever – eventually we will have to "Pay the Piper".

Bad Credit Mortgage in Colorado….is it possible or should we just file Bankruptcy?

We are looking to purchase our first home in the Denver area in about a year. We both have bad/old credit(both of our credit scores are below 600) Our income will be around 75k(I am finshing up nursing shool)

We are trying to see if this is even possible or if we should just be content renting for several more years.

We are expecting a higher interset rate. I have heard of "B loans" & "sub prime lenders" and have been trying to look into them.

We are trying to decide if we should just file bankruptcy now and see if our credit gets better or if it is possible to get a loan?

Will we need 20% down with this bad of credit, or can filing bankruptcy help that?

What are the rules of bankruptcy regarding home and vehicle ownership?

At the beginning of this year I had finally paid off all my old debt. However, in some stupid moves that were started by someone I was with I managed to get myself an extra K into debt. While also trading in my car for a bit more expensive car. I purchased my home a little over a year ago and have always paid everything on time till the last couple months. Even then it wasn’t "late", only up to a couple weeks late rather than a full 30 days. If in the end, I am in a battle I won’t win and my only option remaining is to file bankruptcy..will I lose my home and vehicle? I know now they almost automatically put you in a payment plan, which I might not mind..but are payments affordable? Does that set up help you to retain ownership of your properties?
I’m also in Ohio if the laws make a big dif. The sad thing is though..that I know better than all of this, as I said I finally finished paying things off. I just made a REALLY stupid decision. I have never wanted to go back and change time so badly in my life!

Received responses from debt collection agency to settle debt, now what?

I sent letters to the debt collection agencies that I owe money for medical bills (2600 across 6 accounts) to settle the debts at 25% and to remove entirely from my record. Two have responded asking for full payment, one will remove entirely, other said it would report as "paid in full". What should I do? Should I be renegotiating with them for less than the full amounts? The remove in full is tempting as is, but I feel the "paid in full" definitely has to be renegotiated. Thoughts?

How to settle debt with Attorney Office?

My credit card account is in debt collection and be passed to a attorney to sue me. I have contacted the attorney – he started threatening me that he has my account only to sue me – and that any arrangement with go through the court. I had asked how to avoid that, then he suggests that I settle with him and then will not be sued and avoid judgment – He is willing to settle but I am not sure if this is trap. The reason is that in NH where the account is, if a creditor cashes a full payment check and explicitly retains his right to sue you by writing "under protest or without prejudice" with his endorsement, then he can come after you for the balance. But those exact words must be used. If he writes "without recourse," communicates with you separately, notifies you verbally or writes on the check that it is partial payment, it is not enough.
Please advise how I could make sure he is not going to trap me and come back for the unpaid part later.

How to help a relative in debt?

I have a relative ("Lou") who is in debt. Lou is in his early 30’s. The debt is more than K. Lou seems depressed, and I believe spends (restaurants, clothes, etc) as an escape from real life. In the past, the family has repaid Lou’s debt without conditions, but every time more debt appears later. This time, the family offered to refinance the debt only if Lou hews to a budget. Lou is resisting the budget since it imposes controls that any adult might resist. Plus, Lou is worried about his life being in too much flux and not being able to guarantee he can live within the budget. The only alternative is for Lou to default on his debt. We don’t really want that because of the long-term implications of bankruptcy. We also worry about pushing Lou "over the edge". There is no drinking or drug problem. There may be a gambling problem. What do we do? Lou refuses to go to counseling.

So does Gary Bettman have control of the Coyotes or not?

No new developments (at least I didn’t hear any), but I ran across this interesting piece of tidbit today. I was going through old podcasts of The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos on my iPod and watched an uncut, half-hour interview with Bettman back in February. Just before the 12:00 mark, this is what transpired:

Stroumbo: "And again, I mean this very sincerely, the NHL are running the Phoenix Coyotes. How is that not a disaster?"

Bettman: "Well-well, we’re not really running them. I mean, Doug Moss is still operating them, Jerry Moyes is the owner…"

Stroumbo: "But other franchises are paying for them, right?"

Bettman: "No, no, no, no, you see, that’s where the…*Strombo about to interupt with another question but Bettman pushed on* What-what’s happened is, we have advanced monies that the club would be ultimately be entitled to…to this point. So that, you know, revenue sharing, national TV, we’re dealing with their cash flow issues. But, what’s the alternative? Not have them go through this season? You do the things that’re necessary to make it work."

Stroumbo then asked him if the Coyotes would play there next season, and Bettman answered that the league has "every expectation that they will." They then went on to expansion issues.

Bit of hesitation there. I know there are some things that you need to keep private from the media, but which is it, Gary? Were you or were you not running the Coyotes as of November ‘08 as you kept saying to the media? Or was it really Doug Moss who’s running shop as you said in February?

For the edited interview that aired (and doesn’t contain this segment), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyl9jo4BLec

For the entire uncut interview that has this part and I can’t find on youtube, it’s a little bit more complicated and I can’t guarantee it’ll work. Open your iTunes, search "The Hour podcasts," and subscribe. The uncut interview is not available for download by itself though. Once you’ve subscribed, go all the way back to February and see if it’s still available for download. This is the only way I can figure out how to watch it for non-subscribers. If someone else can find it on youtube, by all means, post the link.

So what do you think? Can this be used at all to cross-examine Bettman, either back in court or during mediation? This certainly is evidence and should be treated as such according to the rules in bankruptcy laws. Any rebuttal in support for Bettman or against my own arguments?

Would it be a good idea if the State of Ca (my home state) default on its bonds in order to save the State?

Ok, first off I don’t know if this is a Conservative or a Liberal idea, but I did vote for McCain and Palin and think that they would make a better team to lead the country then Obama and Biden. Many in my family and I have to include my inlaws and YES!! even my own husband (he’s still the love of my life) think that sometimes my cognitive processes (thinking to those of you who haven’t mastered "BIG" words lol is on the eccentric side. For example, I thought (and still believe this idea) that when California was having the wildfires it should have let them burn out on their own and simply rescue any people in the way of the fires. People then should have been relocated out of California to live in such safer environments as Kansas (where there are few fires) etc. Anyway this is Rebecca thinking out of the box again. The government should simply print up a lot of money and use it to pay off all the bonds. After this, California would have plenty of money left to balance its budget and pay for schools, roads, and maybe even cut taxes. If the Federal Government refuses to print extra money to pay off the bonds (after all the money is only paper lol lol) then an alternative would be to simply default on the bonds issued by California and declare bankruptcy. So what do all of you think? Oh, in the interest of full disclosure, my mind is searching for something to keep busy since I said goodbye to my favorite man on Wednesday and he’s on his way back to Iraq after spending a wonderful two and half weeks at home on Leave. I think he left me with a little bundle of joy that just started growing inside of me and will eventually be an addition to our growing family.

Can A Person file Bankruptcy under These Circumstance? VA insurance covers very little Apparently?

If the family is on welfare (government-assisted apartments & food stamps) but has much unpaid medical bills? Husband has only VA insurance but apparently they won’t pay much of the bill because he reported it past 90 days (or something close to that). Not sure what bankruptcy entails but I know it means "start from scratch" but we also don’t have anything to give….so can a person on welfare file?

I am filing chapter 7 and need advice on possibly short selling my home. (Or not…)?

I have listed all of my outstanding debts on my bankruptcy (including the 2 mortgages on my home), although I had planned on keeping our home and continuing to keep up the payments. My atty told me that if I needed to walk away from the home at any point after the discharge, that the bankruptcy would help me to avoid any judgements as long as I didn’t refinance the loans. But even without paying the debts that I am filing on, we are still finding that our monthly expenses are far outstrapping our income, so we are thinking about short selling and getting a smaller rental home for a while until we get back on our feet. My domestic partner is on SSI, and is "judgement proof" from what my atty says, so between that and my chapter 7 simply walking away is an alternative to short selling. My question is: what is the best thing to do for the long term?? At this point, both my partner and my credit scores are in the toilet anyway. I’m just worried about never having credit again.

Do I have to pay a collection agency a debt that doesn’t show on my credit report?

I have had two collection agencies recently try to settle debts with me that are very old and do not show on any three of the credit agencies’ reports. Do I have to pay them or are they just trying to make money off me? I have heard this referred to as "zombie debt." Thanks for your help.

Is there any truth about gas prices in this letter to the editor?

The price of gasoline has hit a new high, as I’m sure you are well aware. We all lament the high cost of fuel and the repercussions it has in our economy. High fuel prices drive up the cost of everything from groceries to cars, because everything we buy is shipped in vehicles that burn some form of oil, be it gasoline or diesel. As our economy slides towards recession, the last thing we need is for prices to go up. This will result in what economists call "stagflation", a situation in which prices are going up while jobs and wages are being lost.
The rising cost of fuel is primarily a matter of supply and demand. With the economies of Asia growing rapidly, notably China and India–between them containing one third of the world’s people– demand for oil is outstripping the supply, driving up the price of oil. This will get worse, not better, as the countries of Asia add more cars.

Let’s not forget the impact of the OPEC nations, who together exert considerable control over oil prices. Venezuela, Iran, and Libya are members of OPEC and they prosper as oil prices rise, as do other non-OPEC nations who produce lots of oil. Plus they enjoy the side benefit of watching our economy falter. Do you remember the vow made by Osama Bin Laden the day before the last presidential election, November 1, 2004. He promised to continue a "policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy". Increasing oil prices play right into the hands of terrorists like Bin Laden who want to destroy us any way they can, and who also benefit from the oil revenues of terrorist-sponsoring nations like Iran.

Consider, too, the oil companies who are complicit with the terrorists in squeezing our economy. The oil companies have all posted RECORD profits as oil prices have reached + per gallon. I have no problem with them making a profit–every business needs to make a profit. But RECORD profits, while the country is slipping into recession? It’s immoral and downright unpatriotic for the oil companies to be raking in the dough while the rest of us are tightening our belts to brace for a downturn.

We are not powerless in this situation, however. Just as OPEC has control over supply, we have control over demand. The growth of China and India notwithstanding, the United States is still the largest consumer of fossil fuels, using 20.7 million barrels of oil per day. This exceeds the amount, 19.8 million bbl/day, used by the next 5 highest nations combined (in order, China, Japan, Germany, Russia, and India). ( http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ene_oil_con-energy-oil-consumption ) To the degree we cut our consumption of fuel, we can fight back. Indeed, we MUST fight back.

Some would lay sole responsibility for doing something about high energy prices at the feet of our government. Government can and certainly should do something about it, but we cannot afford to wait for federal action in this matter. It takes an act of Congress to change national energy policy and we all know how slow that is. It is up to us, individually and collectively to take action; Congress might then follow our lead.

I’m not talking about a one-day boycott–that’s like trying to lose a hundred pounds by not eating for one day, and the oil companies sneer at such efforts. I’m talking about things that will cut consumption permanently. If each of us drives less by carpooling, using mass transit, riding bikes, walking, consolidating trips to the store–anything we can think of, can we cut our individual consumption by 10%, maybe 20%? In our homes, can we set our thermostats a few degrees lower in the winter and a few higher in the summer? As we replace light bulbs, can we switch to the compact fluorescents? Can we seal up those leaks around windows and doors? Energy conservation is no longer a matter of saving the earth, which is important, or even saving money on fuel. It is a matter of national security, because right now we are at the mercy of OPEC; they have our heads in a vise and are tightening it every time the price of oil goes up.

As a nation, we need leadership that will encourage radically new energy policy, not policy dictated by the fat wallets of the oil companies. Ethanol is a fabulous alternative because, not only does it get us off foreign oil, but it gives American farmers a cash crop that will make them absolutely prosper. No longer will we have to prop up American agriculture with the ridiculous policy of paying farmers NOT to grow. Plus, ethanol is renewable; we can grow a new crop when the old one has been harvested.

And consider this, when the world’s oil reserves are gone, as they will be someday, what will the Arabs have to manipulate us with then? If we have engaged our agricultural powerhouse into growing crops for ethanol, we could become a major exporter of ethanol fuels, and we could find ourselves in control of the world’s economy, instead of at its mercy. We could have the Arabs begging for our fuel and paying top dollar for it.

Efforts need to be stepped up to make hybrid and hydrogen cars more affordable. If American auto-makers were more pro-active in developing alternative automobiles, they wouldn’t be floundering against the Japanese. We need government policies that encourage the Yankee ingenuity that gave us the automobile, the airplane, the computer and the Internet so that entrepreneurs of vision will take the risks needed to make these new automotive technologies economically viable.

Alternative energies like solar, wind, nuclear, geothermal and hydroelectric also need to be promoted vigorously and we must raise our voices to demand leadership from our elected officials to make it happen. The project to put a wind farm in Spanish Fork canyon is visionary and highly commendable. We need more of such projects because, once again, they are renewable.

Consider this a call to arms: we CAN fight back against high oil prices. Indeed, each one of us MUST, starting today. Not only is it good for each of us as consumers, it is strategically vital for us as a country, and of course, for our mother earth. If we put our backs and our minds to it, we could impact demand for oil within a month and be energy independent within five years. Then we’ll have OPEC begging us to buy their stinking oil, for 25 cents a gallon or less.

Is BANNING ISLAM the solution?

Solutions to Islamic Terror:

1) Do nothing at all (extreme Christian/Leftist view)
2) No military action, but seal every nook and cranny (mainstream Christian/Leftist view)
3) Proactively confront Islamic countries who harbor terror camps (mainstream conservative view)
4) Nuke Mecca (anti-islam view)
5) Ban Islam in America.

Choices 2 & 3 are not solutions. Islamists realize that either choice leads to bankruptcy and ruin. Its impossible to seal every nook and cranny, and even if it was, we would go bankrupt before sealing 20% of the "vulnerablities".

Iraq, Afganistan or any other Islamic theater of war is another "bleeding" alternative, as we can see now. Because American culture believes in a lefitst-santized version of "war", we give the enemy the advantage. America soliders are not soliders, they are "security" personel waiting for the Islamist to shot him.

If we banned Islam, would we need to seal every port and plane or fight overseas? Ok…go on being PC…go on.

How many jobs will be lost of Obama causes the coal industry to go bankrupt?

I know he’ll be creating jobs with alternative energy, but coal workers do not specialize in alternative energy… they know how to do coal work, so they’ll lose their jobs. How many workers will be out of work and be forced to find something completely out of their field?
Oops… change the "of" to "if" in the question :)
I have seen ONE answer in here that was close to answering the question. If you don’t have a reasonable answer for the question, please don’t answer.

Regarding unsec. c card debt, can my wages be garnished in AZ / NM (ex filed bnkrptcy, collectors now call me)

This is a question related to last week’s question kindly answered by helpful person…"is not paying unsecured credit card debt an alternative to bankruptcy [?] ". The answer included info that my wages could not be garnished in TX. I now need to know about NM & AZ.
Considering I can’t do debt consol and would very much like to avoid bankruptcy….I am trying to put my life back together after ex husband in TX surprised me by divorcing me after 14 yrs. and then filed bankruptcy himself instead of filing as a couple (which he had told me he would do-as a couple) and in doing so dumped debts on me. Collectors who can’t collect from him are now calling me. THANKS GREATLY FOR YOUR HELP.

Bankruptcy?

My mom and my fiance need the cheapest way to file bankruptcy. They both qualify (done consults with lawyer who quoted them at almost ,000 to file). I can use all the help I can. Info on how to get what can be filed against, how to file (by lawyer CHEAP/FREE or doing it yourself), how to get the account info on everything that needs to be filed against (FREE PLEASE). My mom is without a job currently (looking for a new job) and my fiance and I struggle paycheck to paycheck with our baby girl. We need something that is going to get them out from underneath a WHOLE LOT of debt the quickest. We have no money.

THanks,
Belinda
My fiance (not sure on my mom) cannot do ANYTHING to pay back ANY of his debt! It is over ,000 (at least).
Also I see one answer say that "you WILL lose everything" well it is hard to lose everything if they have NOTHING! All he has in his name is a car (not worth anything according to Blue Book Kelly) and a bank account with NO MONEY in it anyway. His ex wife get 55% of his paycheck for current and back child support. I don’t know what is going on with my mom, I don’t ask anymore. But I know how it is with my fiance, we don’t make any money and we don’t have any money. He doesn’t own anything of value!
