Should I attempt to pay my credit card in full or settle the debt?

Here’s an interesting situation. I was out of the country and thought I paid my balance in full, but money sat in my bank account for a few months not moving. I’ve never had a late fee in my life, but I am young and don’t really have much to have credit built on yet.

Anyway, I was out of the country like I said, and the account went 5 months past due with just very small payments automatically paid. However, they weren’t enough, and it now shows up as 4 months delinquent. The late fees made it where I don’t have quite the money to pay in full, but I can get help from relatives to pay in full now. However, my account was sent to collects, but it was not charged off. The collections company said they were only contracted to help the creditor. It was not charged off.

They offered a settlement to me that is about ,000 less than the full amount, and I really need money right now. Should I take the settlement or pay in full? I am worried about my credit being hurt more, but I also spent too much money on someone I thought I was going to marry. I certainly won’t make that mistake again because now I have trouble paying for gas and food.

Illegal alein invasion–how many years before the United States go into official 3rd world status?

The United States was set to go bankrupt anyway, with the baby boomers retiring with its huge Medicare and Social Security cost, plus the social welfare growth, etc.

Now, the United States is granting amnesty to 20 miilion or so illegal aliens who will brink about six relatives each to our nation once the amnesty is official, increasing the poor by about 120 million.

Question–how many years before we become classed as 3rd world? In other words, when will the typical American city look like the typical city in Somalia?

20, 40 75?

I say I say 35 years. What do you say?
Linda,

It does not matter who we elect. Neither the Democrats notr the Republicans care about national sovereignty or the welfare of our future–all they care about is THEIR power. Ckinbton and Carter we jsut as bad as both Bush presidents.
Crusader,

There is a saying that "so goes California, so goes the nation", meaning CA is the trend setter. You are right–California is pretty much third world now in many areas, and we will see the same thing in every American city soon.
Salvatrucho,

You think the US can"profit from this"???

You better start doing some research. These illegals drain money from our taxes at a rate that DWARFS any taxes some of them pay in, and most do not pay in.

When they bring their relatives here, just think–youhave a very low poverty rate past illegal alien (future amnesty citizen) who can’t afford to support himself/herself. How do you think they will support a bunch of relatives? OUR TAXES and social welfare will support them.

Yes, our nation WILL look like Somalia soon, just as some here have described some of California’s cities already do.

I say 35 years as antion as a whole we will be third world status, but in just 10 years, a good portion of the nation already will.

How to deal with hillbilly in-law with village mentality?

Basically, the mother-in-law obsessively compulsively talks about other people’s private matters, gossips, how was other people’s divorce and how his daughter’s husband go bankrupt… also all kinds of juicy details about other people’s lives. She would stop all together when she go to sleep. She often sits in the living room and talk from morning till mid-night. She would tell about my life to her 100 relatives and friends. How to deal with her and her hillbilly husband? the whole family love to argue with me and I am all alone being attacked by all of them including her son/my "husband’. I am so angry at them and don’t know how to deal with this kind of things. I am always smiling to them and trying to be nice cos I don’t want to give them any excuse to spread rumors about me. I tried to keep a distance and not to talk too much cos they would push more if they thought I am very friendly with them. The hillbillies loves to spit on all the food on the dinning table and I totally lost all my appetite. They spit mainly because they can’t stop talking while they are chewing their food with open mouth! … They are always on their son’s side and I am the weakest link being attacked all the time and I have no support for anything i do. They love to poke their fingers into the peanut butter jar to taste the peanut butter. This is just one example. they do it all the time to any jar in the fridge. They are so aweful. They washed their hair once a week and never brush their teeth after drinking chocolate mike past midnight. They sleep and step on my couch which created several crack on my leather sofa and left a strong odor in my sofa. They are obesed and proud of it. Please help!

Is there a cheap way to file for bankruptcy?

My mother is in a bit of a financial pickle. She has credit card debts, I’m not sure of the exact amount, but over ,000, at least, most of it from a failed person business. She feels that the best option right now is to file for bankruptcy. However, she cannot even afford to do that! It costs somewhere near ,600 for the various court and lawyer fees. She cannot save up because we’re already living paycheck to paycheck. I’m only sixteen, so any job I manage to get won’t do much good. None of our relatives are capable of lending her the money. I don’t think self-filing is a possibility. The whole situation seems kind of hopeless. Any ideas?

should she file bankruptcy?

my mom has over ,000 in debt. she’s maxed out in ALL of her credit cards. she just today got fired from a job she’s had for over 27 years and she is 47 years of age. I was wondering if she should file for bankruptcy since we don’t know when she will have a job. she has a mortgage in her name …but my dad is the one who pays ALL of it and that is taken care of…….. they separated but are not divorced. she rents a room with my sister. we cannot help her with the payments on her credit cards and why should we?! because we are having difficulties ourselves with unemploymen, but I’m pretty sure having a place for her to stay at will be NO problem ..it’s just that we cannot help her with credit card payments. what will be the smartest move? and what kind of bankruptcy can she file without it affecting my dad or the mortgage
my mom has 10 siblings that can take care of her from now on, including myself. we’re young and we can give her a roof , and also, since my dad is taking care of the mortgage, there will be no problem. i just don’t want her to worry about making those damn payments on credit cards
I’m sorry not siblings, I mean relatives, including kids, brothers, etc
old bitty, why shouldn’t she file bankruptcy? will that hurt the house my dad is paying for, which is under both their names. will that hurt her chances of retiring?
even with those funds, she couldn’t possibly pay the minimum on ALL her cards

I’m about to lose my home from bankruptcy what should I do?

well I first lost my job, and now I’m in the process of losing my house from bankruptcy so I’m going to be homeless at the end of the month, what should I do? I can’t imagine myself living in a park or on street corner with everyone walking past me and neglecting me and beating me so is there an alternative to this? Is it possible that i could use a safety harness rope and climb on top of school buildings and sleep up on top there instead? I was thinking about dwelling in a treehouse somewhere in the forest but….there are bears there that can climb trees without any real effort and I haven’t purchased bear spray or a gun yet or anything…what can I do?? What would u do if you were in my shoes?? (Thank goodness I am single, phew)
i don’t have relatives and i don’t have friends

Can a collection agency make ANY demands they want to settle a debt?

I acknowledge that this debt is my responsibility, but the operator made me feel like they would extract the gold fillings from my teeth to get this paid! (If I had any, that is.) I mean, they asked if I had any property, any relatives who could co-sign a loan. They even asked if I’d filed my taxes yet! I don’t understand! Are these agencies allowed to make me feel like dirt until they get the money?

(It’s a student loan, by the way. The LAST outstanding debt I have)
