Where can I find bankruptcy help in Texas that is free?

I am 26,000 in credit card debt. My life turned around completely last year and I lost many things in my life, family, job, etc. I am not making enough on my job to pay the basics and have been using up all may savings. Now I have no savings left and am short 600 month just for basics and providing for my daughter although she doesn’t live with me. She lives with my mom who is living on ss. I need to file chapter 7 but can’t afford the fees and am not smart enough with paper work to do it myself (I’m terrible with directions). I can scrape together money for the useless credit counseling stuff (so they can figure out how I can pay 1800 bills on 700 income, lol) if I don’t buy groceries for a couple weeks but I have no way of getting 500 dollars. My employer cuts hours every week and it’s that way on all retail jobs. I can’t just get a better job and even with that, i would only have the money I need for the basics. My small tax refund will only be 30 dollars.
If I was able to get a second job (not easy with no transportation and if I work after dark, I have to take a taxi (I spend 20 dollars a week now on taxi rides when I get off at night as my neighborhood is very dangerous and I can’t move). If I can find extra work hours, it will just keep me from being homeless a couple months longer, it will not cover bankruptcy costs. I have no resources, family and friends have no money to help. Is there anywhere in Houston where I can find free legal help (not just a consultation but actual filing assistance without cost?) If I have to pay the fees, I will not be able to pay rent. At the rate I am going, I will be homeless as of July 1st providing I don’t lose my job or have any more hours cut.
They are only a week late but I am already getting calls all day during the week. No one leaves a message on my machine so I presume it’s one of my creditors. I need to file bankruptcy because if I don’t they will sue me and freeze my bank account which only contains my pay deposits which are only 700 but if they take that, I can’t pay my rent. I have nothing to sell as I lost everything I owned last year when my family through me out. They gave away and sold all my stuff. I have a 50 tv and a40 boombox that doesn’t work and a 2year old computer that runs slow.

If I file for bankruptcy, will I still be able to get my tax refund?

I am thinking of filing for bankruptcy within the next 3 weeks. And I was wondering if I do so and every year I always get about a 4,000 dollar tax refund, will I be able to keep that or will they take that from me since I filed for bankruptcy? Thank you for anyone who knows the answer to this!!!

If I file bankruptcy with a dependent, do I need to claim them on my taxes?

I filed bankruptcy with a child dependent in Florida. My fiancee will receive a larger tax refund if she claims our son, however I am concerned that the court may question why I did not claim him on my taxes since I claimed him in the bankruptcy. Does anyone have any idea?

If filing for bankruptcy, should I file before, or after, filing/receive my tax refund?

I’m considering filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but whether or not I’m allowed to keep my tax refund will determine which chapter I file. If I receive enough tax refund, and am allowed to keep it, I wouldn’t need to worry about losing my car in the bankruptcy – I could use my tax refund to buy an older model used car. BUT, if I did buy an older car with my refund, would I then be required to list it as an asset (that I could potentially be forced to sell in order to pay things off)?

If I won’t get to keep my tax refund, then I may file Ch. 13 instead…keeping the car I’m currently making payments on. No matter what, I have to do whichever allows me to have a car – I have to have a way to get back & forth to work.

I know many of you are going to say "call an attorney". I’ve tried to contact my attorney, but she’s never in her office & hasn’t returned my calls. If you’ve been through it, can you give me any advice?

My fiance is filing bankruptcy and the trustee wants our 2010 tax forms. Should we file married but separate?

I always get a nice tax refund, and want to protect it from the trustee because she filed before we decided to get married. Is it better to file married but separately, and who should write off the dependant(child)?
We will be married before the bankruptcy is final. But it was filed before there were wedding plans.
The trustee wants 2010 tax filinging reported to him before April 15, 2011. We will be married this year.

If you file for bankruptcy, does it apply to student loans?

I am currently in a financial mess because I’ve gone on disability from my job (long term.) Now I’ve discovered that my student loans (which were being garnished) are not fully paid. I had previously thought they were finally paid off because the garnishments ended, but I found out today that I still owe the US Dept. of Education over ,000. I found this out because my tax refund went directly to them.

If I file for bankruptcy, does this void my student loans? I have been told by some that it does not.

What is the bankruptcy code in regards to filing for chapter 7 & receiving a tax refund?

I had my hearing for chapter 7 my atty told me that up to something like 80% of my tax refund but atty won’t tell me if I’ll get it all back if no one files a claim or explain any further just says almost always a creditor files a claim.
