We’re looking into filing chapter 7 (not the prettiest option but honestly the only at this point) and hoping to save some money. While I’ve considered attempting to do it myself (we have a straightforward bankruptcy and qualify by a longshot) I did see there are quite a few online companies which could make it easier and be more affordable than an attorney. Yes, an attorney is still the safest bet but I’m wondering if there are any online companies anyone are aware of that aren’t a total crock (which, unfortunately, is most of what I’m seeing!) Thanks in advance.

Im recently getting back on my feet after being unemployed for about 2 years and want to pay off some things that have went delinquent. I understand that these accounts already have a negative effect on my credit score, so would just settling them be bad? I just figure I can pay more off faster if i settle as opposed to paying them in full. Does anyone have any advice for me.
Thanks in advance

I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. I did go to psychiatrists when I had a job with health insurance and they did not help. I’m at the point now that I would like to kill myself, but I’m a coward. I’m not looking for people to say "oh, don’t do that" — I’m mentioning that to give you an idea of how I have no hope and no desire to live. I isolate myself literally in my home. I’m in horrible debt now. I have no friends, no partner, no children and I’m almost 50.
I CANNOT afford to see a doctor, so please don’t suggest that. And the state will not help a single white person with no children, so please don’t suggest that. Even if I found a free clinic, I probably wouldn’t go because I have this problem about isolating myself in my house, fear of going out. And I’ve looked for free group therapy in my town and I haven’t found any. I even tried to get other depressed people to come to a group therapy via Craigslist. No one responded. If you suggest church, I probably won’t go because I have a problem with *isolating* myself.
Believe it or not, I wasn’t always like this, although I feel I’ve always had problems with depression. I was a flight attendant for 15 years. I’ve gained tons of weight, I will eventually have to file bankruptcy, if I can ever make myself go to the attorney and file and have the money to file. I just want to disappear when my cat dies.
Is there anyone out there that deals with this kind of thing and can suggest ANYTHING to help me just make the first move to helping myself?
Thanks in advance.

the amount is 33 from Verizon, this is before the unlimited plans came out, and my cousin was also on my line, however she passed away, now its on my credit because the phones were in my name,I believe we were being charged by the minute and we talked over the limit. The charges are also high because we got our phones at a booth in a mall which they make you sign a separate contract if you cancel/don’t pay you have to pay them as well! Everyone is saying settle for 25% but idk, Thanks in advance

Is it a good or bad? I worked with Creditors directly, but no use.. They never come down on the APR.. still 29.99%. I never missed on payments.. Only bad thing I did for 2 cards are I forgot to remove the automatic payment option from my old checking account in May and Jun.. With that mistake, they gone up on my APR’s and missing payments. They will review my account only after 12 months of ontime payments… ? So, I started working with various debt consolidation companies, they offered for 0 / 36 months which includes(0 for the company).. But in their terms, they cannot guarantee any.. Can we trust such of these companies? When I calculate, I am not even paying all to the credit cards…Not sure if its a good practice? What happens to the credit score and profile if continue with Debt Mgt companies? Please share if any had any past experience or any suggestions .. Thanks in advance

It will be 7 years old THIS DECEMBER, it’s only 6 1/2 years right now. It’s about ,300 and when I called them to try and settle they said they could only go to about 0. Come on! It’s 7 years old, they paid pennies for it. Should I offer them a couple hundred and say take it or leave it? Or should I just wait until this December and say "you get notta"! Need advice, thanks in advance! Btw, I need by debt clear within the next month (But I don’t want them to know that) I want them to think I have a lifetime!

I’m looking to resolve all my debts on my credit report. I sent letters for "pay for deletion" but got little feedback. The debts aren’t back breaking just hurting my credit, so I’m looking to just pay them off in full.
My question is should I settle or should I just pay in full? I heard that after 7 years they will fall off your credit report whether pay are paid, settled, or unpaid, is this true? Also how can I do pay for deletion if they don’t respond?
Thanks in advance

I am about to go bankrupt and just wanted to know what the terms of bankruptcy are and how much influence my creditors can have over those terms?
What the best way to go about getting the most favorable terms–that is, having to pay the least amount of money to creditors post bankruptcy? (I’m broke at the moment)
Thanks in advance

I have pretty good credit, my fiance has a credit card bill for about 00 that has been in collections for about a year. The amount on the card was just over 00, everything else is late fees & such.
What are the other risk factors involved? Am I going to start getting calls as his spouse wanting to settle the account? What are the other things that could happen because of this debt once we’re married?
I’m curious because the only things I can find online relates to debt & divorce, not marriage. Thanks in advance.
Also, I’ve been pre-approved for a home loan. Due to his credit, we applied in my name. I’ve already been quoted a 6.3% rate on the loan, but we are just now starting the process to work out a deal on a home we have found. Once we are married, will this rate change?
We’re in West Virginia.
We are also getting married in less than a week. He’s tried to settle a few times, but at this point the only option to settle they are giving is paying the entire debt in 2 payments. We aren’t in a situation where we can afford to pay off over 00 in 2 months or less.
Like I kinda mentioned, impossible to close on a house within the next week, so that option is out.
As far as keeping things seperate, the checking account is already shared. The address thing is impossible as for one he doesn’t want his family to be made aware of this, plus it’s impossible to use another address. When we moved in together, the company started sending letters & such to our new address before other mail was even sent to the new address.

….after you get sued for building a faulty house for someone. The judge is in favour of the plaintiff, whose house you built. He rules that you must pay them ,000 to compensate for the cracks in the ceilings & walls and various other mishaps. You then, like a b*tch, file for bankruptcy. Don’t know how to phrase this, but: your claim for bankruptcy is accepted.
Replace the you with defendant. What prompts me to ask this is that the defendant walked out of court saying "You’re not getting one cent" to the plaintiff. Which, for comedic effect, i will add that he got punched in the face :L
Questions:
1) How does the plaintiff get his compensation, in civil law or whatever area of law? Are there alternative ways to gain compensation for this issue other than suing? Obviously the suing did not work out? Like for e.g. in criminal cases you can go to the Victims Compensation Tribunal if suing civilly does not work in your interests.
2) Does the defendant (in bankruptcy) have to sell all his assets and every cent of his future income goes to paying the defendant the compensation? Its only fair..
3) Does he get off scott free?
Thanks in advance
Would appreciate it if any lawyers on yahoo could lend a hand in releasing me from confusion and unknowledgability.
Ps. The jurisdicton is NSW, Australia.

I just reviewed my credit report and noticed that there are two medical bills on my report. The agency that currently has my account has offered me a settlement and is sending me a statement in the mail. I am in the process of trying to straighten out my credit score and before this medical debt showed up things were greatly improving. I would like to know if I was to settle the medical debt, would that be worse for my credit report and credit score.
Thanks in advance for your response.

Ok, here is the deal. I was stupid and young and let myself get talked into buying a neon 4 yrs ago. The car is having some major issues with the transmission and the repair costs more than I can afford. The warranty has expired and I owe more than it’s worth(duh). I can’t get approved for a car because my credit is bad and the car adds about 5,000 onto the potential loan. I have some other debt I accrued while I was unemployed and couldn’t pay my bills and I am thinking about filing bankruptcy. I understand that if I file bankruptcy they might not include the car because I owe way more than it is worth. So the question is do I let them re-po it first and then file bankruptcy and if so do both show up on the credit report? Help! And thanks in advance to all of you that give serious answers.

Close Bankruptcy Loophole for Mortgage Companies: Obama and Biden will work to eliminate the provision that prevents bankruptcy courts from modifying an individual’s mortgage payments. They believe that the SUBPRIME mortgage industry, which has engaged in dangerous and sometimes unscrupulous business practices, should not be shielded by outdated federal law.
i capitalized it so u guys could find it. imdoing research for a debate in english class and i was reading and my word document says that "subprime" is wrong and so does yahoo answers. so i wondered what an alternative word wold be so that i know what its talking about and i will understand better.

It would take me years to pay back my entire debt to these billion dollar credit card companies, which I don’t feel at all guilty about with all the interest that they charge.
However, I want to resolve my debts in order to improve my credit score. Are there any good websites that offer advice and ways to settle these debts at relatively low amounts?
Thanks in advance.
Also, some of my debts have been delinquent for over 5 years and have been sold off to collection companies. How do you settle these if the credit card company is no longer involved in the debt (i.e., they sold the rights to the money).
