Should I file Bankruptcy? I own nothing.?

I have several thousands of dollars in debt, and I feel that it would probably take me 2 or more years to repay if I move back with my parents and don’t ever go out. The only items that I actually own is my phone, computer, and clothes. So, would bankruptcy be the way to go?

My only income is my unemployment,…
I also own a car that’s paid off.

Do those debt consolidation websites really work?

My boyfriend is around ,000.00 in debt. He almost signed up with one of those debt consolidation companies online. What they told him to do in a nutshell is to pay them X amount each month and not pay his credit card bills for about 2.5 years, then they would take the money he sent them and "settle" the debt and save him thousands of dollars. This would supposedly work because since he wouldn’t have paid for those years, they would think he was about to declare bankruptcy and be afraid they wouldnt get any of their money, so they would settle for much less. He was guarantted to save atleast 5grand. Has anyone ever tried this and succeeded? it sounds odd to me.

How do I find out all of my debt, in collections and past due?

I’m going thru a divorce & learning of thousands of dollars in collection & more that are delinquent & on there way to a collection. Yesterday I learned of a credit card company that will settle for a % of the debt. I contacted this company & informed them that I have never applied for a credit card in my life. They had all of the personal info on me needed to apply for a credit card. I have a feeling that my soon to be ex applied for & received a card in my name. They informed me to go to the police dept. & fill out a fraud/identity theft form. Is this the correct action to take? I had trusted that my ex was taking care of our finances but apparently she wasn’t. I will probably have to file bankruptcy. Should I do this after our divorce is final and the debts are divided or file together with my ex, before the divorce is final? I obviously want to know ALL of my debt that is out there. How do I go about finding this out? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are debt settlement companies a scam?

I was thinking of signing up with a debt settlement company but I have heard the debt settlement companies not what they seem. They promise to settle your credit card and unsecured debt for half or less than what you owe. I have heard what they don’t tell you is that you usually get sued, get your wages garnished, and that the debt settlement companies over report what they actually save you while charging you a huge fee. In addition, I have heard that your savings are reported to the IRS as income and that your credit report is trashed. Supposedly their seemingly caring sales people are paid high commissions. Apparently you can negotiate with your creditors and be just as successful while saving the thousands of dollars these companies charge you. What I want to know is if all that is really true about these companies and can I actually negotiate with my creditors myself and save thousands in fees. I need the scoop from someone that is honest and knows the truth about these companies

Are non-profit companies exempt from paying Social Security taxes for their employees?

I work for a company that’s a not-for-profit medical provider (any "profit" at the end of the year gets divided up and paid to the doctors as "bonuses" so the balance is always zero).
I’ve never had any Security Security tax withheld from my paycheck, nor paid by my employer. When I asked why, they said it was because they were non-profit.
My worry is that this might affect how much Social Security income I’m entitled to when I retire (please save the jokes about SS going bankrupt before I can collect…)
So, is what they’re doing legal? If not, what should I do? (My big concern is that, if it’s reported, SS will demand all the employees to immediately pay up tens-of-thousands of dollars in owed back taxes!)

When you file for bankruptcy, can you keep your checking account?

We have a Bank of America checking/saving account with some money in it (not a lot). We also have bank of america credit cards with thousands of dollars on them (we’ve used them to that point I mean). If we file for bankruptcy, can we keep the checking account we’ve had for 17 years?

I have a LOT of debt…I want to file bankruptcy (please read)?

Hi all.

I am 23 years old and have VERY bad credit and a lot of debt.

I had a lot of complications during my pregnancy, and was in and out of the ER 2-3 times a week for 9 months… after I had my son, a hospital representative came in the room to discuss medicaid with me…ALL this time I was under the impression that I had medicaid and I did NOT. Now I have racked up thousands of dollars in medical bills && also I have 4-5 umpaid credit cards adding up to about 00. Mind you, I have not paid ANY of these bills.

I am married, and want to file bankruptcy, but I do not also want to ruin my husbands credit…can I file for myself only??

I am just really nervous about all of this and I don’t know what to do…

Any suggestions are welcome…

Serious answers only.

Thanks all!

How do I pay for school?

To sum it up I was forced to drop out of school about a year ago because my parents went bankrupt in the middle of my first semester. I had just transferred in to my dream school (an expensive private university) and had counted on my parents co-signing a loan with me. However, they had not told me that the business they had invested thousands of dollars in had gone under so when it came time to apply for a loan and pay the university for my first semester and register for the next semester’s classes I was told there was no way they could afford it. In shock and without financial or emotional support from them I left the school and moved in with my grandmother. I didn’t handle payments with the school immediately because I had no idea how to go about it and assumed they would arrange it.

After that semester I also returned to a junior college and completed requirements to transfer in to a more affordable, state school. This last fall I began a new semester at the new university feeling excited to be back in school. However, now that it is time to register for the upcoming semester’s classes I am being told that without the transcript from the first university I cannot come back to school in the Spring (the requirements for transfer students is to submit ALL transcripts from previously attended schools by the Spring) I contacted the previously attended school to discover I had been put in collections (notices had been sent to my parents home, warning of this, and my parents had never told me). They refuse to give me a transcript without paying the amount in full which is over 10,000 dollars. I have set up a payment plan with the collections agency but again, without paying it all at once, I will not get the transcript and therefore cannot finish school at the university I currently attend. I have tried applying for a loan but as a student I do not qualify for that amount without a cosigner, which I do not have. I don’t know what to do…I have tried contacting everyone imaginable, the president of the previous university, counselors, the head of admissions at my new school, and family members but no on offers me any help or alternatives. I feel so incredibly helpless and all I want to do is finish school.

Does any one know of a lender that approves student loans without a co-signer? Should I file for bankruptcy? Contact a talk show and see if they’ll give me money?? I’D DO ANYTHING TO FINISH SCHOOL! PLEASE HELP!!

mortgage crisis solutions property solutions specialists?

I WAS EMPLOYED BY THIS COMPANY I BELIEVED I WOULD BE HELPING HOMEOWNERS FACING FORECLOSURE AND GET LOAN MODIFICATIONS FOR PEOPLE IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE. THIS COULD NOT BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH I SLOWLY REALIZED I WAS DOING NOTHING BUT SCAMMING THESE PEOPLE .

FIRST OFF THEY OPERATE UNDER 2 NAMES MORTGAGE CRISIS SOLUTIONS BEFORE YOU ENROLL IN THE PROGRAM AND THATS THE NAME THEY TRY TO KEEP CLEAN, THEN ONCE YOU ARE ENROLLED ALL CHECKS ARE MADE TO PROPERTY SOLUTIONS SPECIALISTS THAT WAY BY THE TIME YOU REALIZE YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED OUT OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS YOU HAVE BEEN PAYING PROPERTY SOLUTIONS SPECIALISTS FOR MONTHS AND THAT IS WHO YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO FILE COMPLAINTS AGAINST AND THAT IS WHY MORTGAGE CRISIS SOLUTIONS IS NOT REGISTERED WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BEAREU AND IF YOU CHECK PROPERTY SOLUTIONS SPECIALISTS WITH THE BBB THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN REGISTERED SINCE MAY,28,2008 AND ALREADY HAVE 7 COMPLAINTS AND THAT NUMBER IS GROWING.

THE COMPANY HAS ACTUALLY BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR LESS THEN A YEAR HOWEVER THEY WILL DELIBERATELY LIE ABOUT THAT, THEY ALSO WILL SHOW YOU A LINK ON THE MIAMI-DABE COUNTY WEBPAGE OF A CASE THEY HANDLED AND FILE SEVERAL MOTIONS ON BEHALF OF THE HOMEOWNER STARTING IN 2006 ENDING IN 2008 THIS IS COMPLETELY FAKE THEY NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS CASE AND THE BUSINESS WAS NOT EVEN STARTED UNTIL LATE 2007.

THEY WILL CHARGE YOU 1495.00 IF YOU HAVE NOT RECIEVED FORECLOSURE PAPERS AND 2995.00 IF YOU HAVE RECIEVED FORECLOSURE PAPERS AND SET YOU UP ON A MONTHLY PAYMENT RANGING FROM 500-950.00 A MONTH DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH THEY THINK THEY CAN GET OUT OF YOU BASED ON YOUR MORTGAGE PAYMENT THAT, THEY WILL TELL YOU, YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY WHILE IN THE PROGRAM. THERE IS REALLY NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PEOPLE PAYING 1495.00 AND THE PEOPLE PAYING 2995.00 OTHER THEN THEY FIGURE IF YOU HAVE RECIEVED FORECLOSURE PAPERS YOU ARE A LITTLE MORE DESPERATE AND WILLING TO PAY MORE, BECAUSE THE PEOPLE THAT ENROLL FOR 1495.00 ARE TOLD NOT TO MAKE THEIR MORTGAGE PAYMENTS AND ARE GOING STRAIGHT INTO FORECLOSURE ANYWAY.

ONCE YOU DO FACE A SALE DATE THEY WILL STOP IT TO KEEP THE MONTHLY PAYMENTS ROLLING IN, AND THE WAY THEY DO IT IS SEND YOU THE FORMS FOR A DO IT YOURSELF SUGGESTION OF BANKRUPTCY YOU HAVE TO FILL OUT THE FORMS TAKE THEM TO YOUR LOCAL COURTHOUSE AND PAY THE FILING FEES SO YOU ARE PAYING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR THESE FORMS THAT YOU COULD GET FROM LOCAL COURT CLERK FOR FREE.

THIS AN ABSOLUTE TOTAL CONGAME ALOT OF UNSUSPECTING HOMEOWNERS DONT REALIZE IF YOU FILE BANKRUPT YOU WILL BE IN YOUR HOME FOR OVER A YEAR WITHOUT MAKING A PAYMENT ANYWAY AND THESE PEOPLE ARE CONNING HOMEOWNERS OUT OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THEY CAN DO ON THEIR OWN FREE.

THEIR SCAMMING DOES NOT STOP WITH THE HOMEOWNERS EITHER ITS A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD ONE SIDE FOR THE HOMEOWNERS ANOTHER SIDE FOR THE EMPLOYEES , IF A SALESMAN ONLY HAS A FEW SALES THEY ARE FIRED AND THEY REFUSE TO PAY THEM COMMISSION DUE AND ITS THE SAME WHEN AN EMPLOYEE QUITS ANY COMMISSION DUE IS NOT PAID THESE PEOPLE ARE NOTHING BUT CON MEN STAY AWAY FROM THEM. AND YES I AM WILLING TO TALK TO ANY TYPE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT THAT IS INTERESTED THESE PEOPLE MUST BE STOPPED

What will happen if major banks go bankrupt?

If major banks go bankrupt then what will happen to their debt? In other words, if a person owns couple thousands of dollars in credit card debts and the banks go under, is there still obligation to pay the debt?

(This is theoretically question)
