My husband and I own a home, (1 mos behind on payments), a paid off 2001 car and we have about 35,000 in unsecured credit card debt. We just received a notice of court date for default judgement. We live in TX so all they can do is get judgement and seize bank acct. Should we file and get this over with so we can start over? We do not want to lose our house and I’m scared……
I am confused as to what to do – my husband and I recently reconciled and between the two of us, we have ,000 in unsecured credit card debt. Although he makes very good money, approx. 00 per month, we cannot keep up on all the minimum payments for these cards, let alone trying to pay the principal.
He has a car payment and we own our house (or we will in 27 years anyway
– we have not been late on the mortgage as that is our top priority. We also have 4 kids…… should we file? We figure since we have the house and vehicles that we can deal with the bad, bad credit that this will result in but are we forgetting something?
We considered a debt consolidation but we heard this is more often then not a scam and ruins your credit as much as or more then a bankruptcy. Any advice is appreciated ~ thank you.
Unfortunately all the late payments have resulted in a credit rating in the 500’s which is too low to qualify for a re-fi.
I have about 23,000 in unsecured credit card debt. I recently lost my job and had to take one making a lot less per month. I went a debt consolidation program that got my payment down to about 700.00 per month. The problem is i am only bringing home net about 1200.00. I then have a mortage utilities and insurance etc so i am running in the hole. Is debt settlememt a good alternative. I do not want bankruptcy . I know settlement will hurt my credit score but at this point I need a way out. I have heard that settlement companies make you hold off on payments and the credit card companies will keep hounding you? Is this true? Does anybody have a suggestion to my dilema
A few months ago, I was laid off from my job, became ill and and fell behind on my debts. I don’t have a mortgage or car payment. Most of my debts are unsecured credit card debts. I fear that my only option is to file bankruptcy.
What is the average cost of filing bankruptcy in the state of NY?
I am considering filing Chapter 13 Bankruptcy and know that I will have to pay back the creditors under the repayment plan between 3 and 5 years. I am trying to figure out how much I will be paying per month to the trustee.
I live in Florida, have 000 in unsecured credit card debt, 000 in a car loan and pay 00 a month in child support.
I make about 000 a year gross.
This is a question related to last week’s question kindly answered by helpful person…"is not paying unsecured credit card debt an alternative to bankruptcy [?] ". The answer included info that my wages could not be garnished in TX. I now need to know about NM & AZ.
Considering I can’t do debt consol and would very much like to avoid bankruptcy….I am trying to put my life back together after ex husband in TX surprised me by divorcing me after 14 yrs. and then filed bankruptcy himself instead of filing as a couple (which he had told me he would do-as a couple) and in doing so dumped debts on me. Collectors who can’t collect from him are now calling me. THANKS GREATLY FOR YOUR HELP.
