Once you are served a summons for old credit card debt, is there a way to settle without wage garnishment?

I was served a summons and have to respond within 14 days. I know that responding is the key, but at this point is there a way to settle with a payment plan, etc without wage garnishment?

in a law suit for credit debt, if we are truly unable to pay the debt back now, what are our options?

We are filing an answer in the next 9 days, we would like to settle out of court, when could that be brought up in court? or to the Plaintiff. We do not want wage garnishment or to have to pay the full amount. I heard there is a statute of limitations as to how long the creditors have to sue. What is that in Texas?

My credit is horrible but I don't know if I should file bankruptcy or just pay off my debt?

My credit is terrible I have quite a few accounts in collections, charged off and delinquent and wage garnishment. Some of the accounts are not mine but the process of filing a dispute with the credit bureau has proven unhelpful because they would not remove the accounts. So I am trying to move forward in my life and get my finances and everything together but I am not sure if I should file bankruptcy because I feel like I can not obtain new credit anyway and either way it would take at least 6 months to a year to show that I am being more responsible but my main concern is my garnishment that will stay on for about 20 more months and I really need that extra money due to the fact that I am a single parent trying to get on my feet after leaving an abusive relationship and I just don’t know what to do. Morally I think the right thing to do is to pay off my bills but I don’t have any extra money to do so the money they are taking from my wages could be used to pay off my debt but the only way I can get it off is to file bankruptcy so what to do I am very confused and defeated right now please any advice on finances that could help!!
when I say the accounts are not mine that means I did not sign anything I did not ok anything and I was unaware of the accounts until I looked at my credit report. I have had my personal information stolen on 2 seperate occasions so while yes my name may be on the account I did not sign for them. I am woman enough to admit the accounts I opened I neglected but I do not want to pay back money for accounts or loans that I had no part of and I do understand that bankruptcy will effect my credit for years to come but I have 2 kids a job and school so yes finding another job sounds logical but physically and mentally I am not capable right now of taking on that extra stress and losing the 4 hours of sleep i get each night now. Thank you all for your insight and help Busso, Melvin and Irv thanks a lot you guys your answers don’t make me feel like a complete idiot.

Should I file for bankruptcy or let things play out?

I have outstanding credit card debt of roughly ,000 or so and it’s been 2 years since they have been in collections. One of the 2 CC companies is now suing me for ,000. I have a part-time job making /hr and my yearly income is roughly ,000/yr, so I’m already quite limited financially. The only significant asset I own is a 1999 Mercury Sable (paid for), as I rent. It seems my biggest concern should be wage garnishment, I think. Is that a big risk making only k/year? Or maybe I should just file bankruptcy? I live in Ohio, if that helps.
EDIT: Also, I have an initial consultation with a bankruptcy lawyer tommorrow, is there anything I should ask him about?

Sould I tell debt collectors im going to file bankruptcy?

Hey.. I was unemployed for 8 months and got very behind on all my bills, credit cards, loans.. etc..
I have collection agencies and debt collectors calling me at least 15-20 times a day trying to get there money (everyday all day).. I am about to file bankruptcy to get out of this mess.. I tried debt consolidation, its a joke.. My question Is when the creditors call me should I tell them im in the process of filing bankrptcy OR WILL THAT CREATE MORE PROBLEMS , SUCH AS WAGE GARNISHMENT OR SUEING ME ….
