Two years ago I took a debt settle with a credit card company. Can they still send me the settlement letter?
The credit card account was closed and the collection agency offered me a debt settlement for 1500 dollars less. I took the option and paid off the account. They sent me a letter saying account was satisfied. However I lost that letter. Now I need it for employment purpose because they want to make sure I don’t owe money. Will the credit card company still be able to fax me a letter saying account was settled?
It’s not showing that I owe money. I had to mention to my employer if I "made negotiation with creditor". I answered yes and in details provided that I paid off the debt settlement. Now my employer just need proof of that payment.
Your credit report should state Paid/settled on this account…proving that the account is settled..This should suffice and you would not have to contact the collection agency. Pull your credit report to get this info. Annualcreditreport.com is the real free site to check your credit file for free once a year without a credit card.

Renewing contact with collection agencies like this over old defaulted credit card debt can really stir up a hornet’s next. Without a written settlement agreement they could turn around and deny that any settlement was ever made on this account and start demanding that you make payments…but this time a ridiculously inflated amount like $4,000….seriously, they might do this. Most collection agencies that deal in old credit card debts are extremely aggressive/nasty. Try your credit report instead to document that the account is paid/settled as mentioned above.
If you must contact the collection agency, do so in writing and don’t give them your phone number. If the collection agency that has your account is on the following list, I advise against renewing contact with them:

I would think so, but you need to be clear on who owned the debt at the time. If the original Creditor owned the debt and the Debt Collector was working on behalf of the original Creditor, I would contact the original Creditor. If the Debt Collector owned purchased the debt, I would contact them as the original Creditor would be out of the picture,
