What’s the point of paying off delinquent debt if it won’t be removed from your credit report?

What’s the point in paying a debt collector if the derogatory item will remain on your credit report for 7 years from the issue date?

If the debt collector doesn’t agree in writing to delete it from your credit report, what incentive would anybody have to settle the debt??

Other then to be able to qualify for a home loan or if they are going to sue you I can’t think of a thing.

It looks better on your credit report if you actually pay the debt even if you were past due.
